A REAL TIME CAPSULE EXTERIOR: The paint, all the chrome, rubber door seals, trunk seals, and body fillers are all in like new condition. INTERIOR: The interior is also in great condition. The seats, carpet, headliner, dash, and door panels are in excellent condition. No rips or tears in seats. The interior shows no wear at all. DRIVE TRAN Engine and transmission are very clean under the hood. The engine runs very smooth and the transmission shifts smoothly. All the front end parts are in great shape, no excessive play in the wheel, no vibrations, drives out great. Would not be afraid to drive anywhere in this car. ELECTRICAL: Everything works on this car as it should. Power windows, door locks, radio, climate control, heat and air, power trunk all work properly. There isn't anything on the car that doesn't work as it should. Since the time I've owned this car it has never failed to start. Except for changing the oil and filter, the only expense I've had was putting on an alternator. The engine on this model car from 1979-1984 had a problem with the engine. Around 90,000 miles the intake and heads would start leaking water and caused heating problems. In the Spring of 1985, GM came out with a modification for this model to alleviate this problem. This is one of the modified engines. I found that out by researching the VIN number. HISTORY: This car was bought new for an executive of Quaker State Oil Company for his wife as a present. She drove the car for 24 years and took great care of it until her eyesight failed. I bought the car from this couple in NC about 2 years ago. Have the window sticker that shows original price and options. The owner told me that he was transferred around 1991 and the car was hauled on a closed trailed and they scratched the car so he made them take it to a Cadillac dealer and the entire car was repainted. PROBLEM: Had the car in the shop for an oil change and the mechanic said that there was seapage around the transmission oil pan. He tightened the bolts to see if that would cure the problem Don't see any leakage now but may have to have a new pan gasket in the future. He said front and rear seals are not leaking. On May-13-11 at 12:25:05 PDT, seller added the following information: Had questions regarding the modifications to the 1985 engine so I found an article on line in the Hemmings Motor News that states: With regards to the 1982-1985 aluminum 4.1L (249) engines, the problem source was maintaining the seal between the cast-iron cylinder head and the aluminum intake manifold. Over time-generally 80,000 to 100,000 miles-the gaskets would disintegrate, creating coolant leaks. The engine could then overheat and eventually warp the block. The distortion affected the cam bearings only. The GM engine coolant supplement pellets were essential to prevent minor leaks in the cooling system by retarding the erosion and are essential to maintaining the seal at the intake gasket. These were often not used on a regular basis by owners. In 1985, there was a change in the casting of the blocks for these engines-reinforcements were added. Eldorados with serial numbers after FE623772 had this new block and are sought after by knowing buyers. This car that I am selling was built after this serial number and does have the modification. On May-13-11 at 12:39:22 PDT, seller added the following information: If you would like to read this interesting article about the 1979-1985 Cadillac Eldorado go to Google and type in Hemmings Motor News: 1979-1985 Cadillac Eldorado.
