Vehicle Detail

1970 Olds 442 Holiday Coupe. Selling for just the hard parts cost in getting this car to where it’s at now in the restoration process. I have done other restorations and have never been an all original freak. This is a resto-mod project that will be awesome when complete. As you can see from the list of purchases below it is well on its way and has been built with perfection in mind. My last Oldsmobile restoration scored 997 out of 1000 at the Olds Nationals and this one has been built with the same attention to detail. Job and health changes in my family have forced me to pass this car on. Engine, interior, glass, wiring, dash, bumpers, some trim, and other misc. items are what remain to complete this project. My plan for this car was a non-air, 5-speed manual transmission car with smoke grey tinted glass, which is now available for these cars. It is set up to have a wide stance look with 15” wheels and 245-15 tires. With the top loader Tremec 5-speed and the all new complete Global West suspension design, this car should shift and drive extremely tight. It will tach 2000 rpm at 70 mph, it will handle way better than any stock GM A-Body ever thought about, and shift with a quick click not a reach for the firewall . I was also planning a little something extra for the dash gauges and some aluminum and chrome under the hood to finish this car out. Here’s what has been done so far. I started with an 89,000 original mile, minimal rust, 1970 Texas 442. This car has zero rust pitting anywhere on the numbers matching frame or underbody. It looks brand new under there. The car had rust in the quarters, under the vinyl top, in the doors, trunk lid, one of the correct 1970 fenders, and around the front and back glass. The bottom part of the quarter panels were replaced and all rust through holes around the front and rear glass were cut out and new metal welded in. The bottom of the one fender was repaired with new metal and the top skin was removed and replace with a rust free top. The doors and trunk lid were replaced with excellent rust pieces. There were also a few small areas in the floor and trunk pans that had new metal welded in from a donor cutlass body. The car had some rust but it was all light and only skin deep. The body was removed from the frame and put on a rotisserie after all body panel work had been completed. The frame and all other steel parts were blasted and primed with epoxy primer. All parts were then final coated with ceramic black. This finish has a semi-gloss and is very durable. The body was blasted in some areas and completely rotary wire brushed inside and out. All surface rust and undercoating was removed. The body was then completely primed inside and out with epoxy primer. The inside panels, floors, quarters, doors, and roof were then double coated with Lizard Skin brand sound and thermal spray on insulation. The body was then skim coated, blocked numerous times and painted with PPG base coat clear coat in Matador Red. I have a pretty good start on the 455 engine parts. Date code correct standard bore 1970 block, standard 4-speed crankshaft, set of nice E-heads, bell housing, XC connecting rods, brackets, new steel flywheel, and other engine parts that go with the car. The original bucket seat interior goes with the car, but of course it needs to be redone. Two black consoles, the original sport steering wheel, new window regulators, new hood hinges, 4 core radiator top plate, driveshaft, and lots of other small stuff go with the car. The 1970 Olds 442 was the most popular Oldsmobile muscle car ever built, and when you make it red and black it’s an extremely popular car. The paint on this car is absolutely excellent. It has very few flaws. Everything on this car is new or in like new condition. The car looks a little pink in some of the bright sunlight pictures but believe me it’s not. I am trying to recoup only the hard parts cost I have in this car. I have invested over 350 of my own hours in this project plus some body and paint labor costs. As you can see from the list below the total parts investment in this car adds up to $17,500.00 and I have not listed everything. The car will take another 12 to 15K to complete, depending on how you finish it. That should still keep you whole in the car because the resto-mods are bringing premium money. A completed car similar to this one brought $51K at a Mecum auction last December. I can help with delivery within a reasonable distance from Kansas.
