Vehicle Detail

This would be a true FIRE SALE auction! 1973 Corvette coupe. This car belongs to a lady I work with. She has owned this Corvette for nearly 24 years. One warm evening in March, she was going to take it for an evening drive, but after starting it something went wrong with a fuel line (we are guessing) and the next thing she knew the car was on fire. Fortunately, the fire department is within sight of her house, so they were able to put out the fire before the rest of the car and her garage burned. However, what is left is going to be someone’s project as she does not have the time or place to restore the Corvette. EXTERIOR: This ’73 is paint code 980, trim code 404 car, meaning orange with black leather. Also has a B21 on the ID tag, but I’m not sure what that means. You still get the black leather, but the car was repainted a few years ago to a red metallic. I will say that prior to the fire, the paint work was very good, above average, not a shade tree job, and show worthy. Unfortunately, it will now be hard to match when and if the front is repainted. I did notice one bubble on the rear quarter panel that would need to be fixed anyway. When the color was changed, they did a very good job of painting the door jambs, etc. as there is no sign of the original orange. Tires are 255/60x15. It will need 2 new front tires, but the back ones look to be nearly new. Nice dual exhaust that sounds good. INTERIOR: The interior was in good shape prior to the fire. The seats had been replaced since 1973. Depending on if you are going for a show car or daily driver, they could be cleaned and reused and not be a problem. Nothing burned past the firewall, as the fire was contained to the engine compartment. However, because the t-tops were out at the time of the fire, it did receive some smoke and then has got dirty from sitting around. The plastic has been over the top since the fire to keep out water, etc. The dash, gauges, steering wheel, are all in nice shape. The console/arm rest is loose and cracked, but she does have an extra that goes with the car. MECHANICAL: This car is supposed to have a numbers matching block. I have not been able to verify, but that is what Debbie was told when she bought it 24 years ago. It is a L82 car with 190hp and 8.5:1 compression. A few years ago she had the engine rebuilt, beefed up, and dressed up. She does not know the particulars of what all was done, but here is the good part: She kept all the original parts in boxes in her garage and they did not burn. From what she has leftover, I can deduce a little of what was done. Looks like the engine got a new set of heads, Edelbrock intake manifold, carb, valve covers and air cleaner, new headers, water pump, and whatever they may have done internally. I never drove the car, but do know that it sounded good prior to the fire. The A/C has not been hooked up since the motor was hopped up. The extra original parts you will get with your purchase are: valve covers, breather, water pump, a/c compressor, heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, extra set of beauty rings, and a few miscellaneous goodies. TITLE: This car was declared a total loss by the insurance company. However, Debbie elected to keep the car and sell it. She has a clear title in hand. We are not sure of the status of how the title will come back once you, the buyer, register it. The insurance company never owned it, and there are currently no stamps or documents that go with the title to declare it a salvage vehicle. In the interest of fairness, I elected to list the car as a salvage title, just to eliminate any confusion. We believe that it will remain a clean title, but NO guaranty on that matter. If this is of concern to you, check with your local DOR BEFORE BIDDING ON THE CAR. TERMS of SALE: Car is being SOLD AS-IS, no warranty expressed or implied. All sales are final. Title will be transferred to the buyer once funds are received in full and verified. If you choose to pay by check, you can wait until it clears before coming to get the car. · I will not end the auction early. · I will not tell you the reserve price. · I will not give you a Buy-it-Now price. The high bidder is expected to honor their bid, pay, and come get the car. Delivery is NOT available. Please, e-mail questions to ttownsend@central-bank.netOn Apr-25-11 at 07:44:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Debbie (417)-664-2885On Apr-26-11 at 06:42:40 PDT, seller added the following information: As many of you have pointed out, this cannot be a L82 car because it has a J in the VIN# rather than a T. That is fine. I do not claim to be a 70's Corvette expert. It is what it is. That's why I put all the information and pictures out there that I could...you be the judge from there. RESERVE HAS BEEN MET. CAR WILL SELL TO THE HIGH BIDDER ON FRIDAY NIGHT. NO TRICKS, NO GAMES. THE LAST BIDDER TAKES IT HOME.
