Fresh from winter storage is a nice 1982 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL. I bought the car last year as a project. The seller thought that the car needed a new fuel pump because it would only run when starting fluid or gas was squirted into the carb / injectors. I assumed the seller was right, so all I did initially when I got the car was to clean it out. But after months of working on other projects I finally got around to this SL right before the cold weather set in and I found out that - it was only out of gas. I poured about 3 gallons into the tank and it start right up and drove around nicely on my neighborhood test drive. Had I known it was only out of gas I would have been driving it all summer! Condition: The engine and transmission are strong, the interior is very nice with no rips in the seats or door panels, the body is pretty nice with no appreciable damage. There is surface rust around a jack hole and a couple other small areas. There are areas of rust through under the gas door, passenger wheel well, and beneath the package shelf on driver's side (about 3 in. diameter). I have patched the area under gas door. I have not noticed any rust through in the floor pans. The car is very solid overall. The Signal Red paint has clear coat pealing and will need to be refreshed. It is the original paint and color combination. All tires hold air and look pretty decent. Also, the previous owner apparently was checking through the fuse box and gas tank area to try to fix what they thought was a the fuel problem and didn't fasten them back up. But there doesn't appear to be any damage issues there. The hard top is nice. I removed the soft top frame with the intent of replacing the soft top with a new one that I bought. So as a bonus the buyer will receive a very nice and brand new soft top that they can install. The car starts right up and works fine. This is a nice SL. I am only selling it because I have too many cars (including 3 other SLs) and projects. The headlights and brake lights work. Could it be driven home? It has fresh oil and filter (less than a mile since changed). But you might want to change tires and maybe have brakes done and/or other items. And then it's up to you. The car is being sold as-is with no warranty. I have title in hand, it is the title I got from the person I bought the car from but I never filled it in, so it is fine.
