Vehicle Detail
I I purchased my "Red Rocket" from an architect near Scottsdale, Arizona in 2006 and had a blast driving it to Florida. I averaged an honest 27 miles per gallon at sustained cruising speed of 80+ mph. The actual milage driven is 130,517. It only has a five place odometer so it shows 30,517 all of which are highway miles. My primary use for this car is cross country travel. You can get in it today and be in California befrore you know it. The 25 gallon gas tank gives it a range of more than 500 miles without refueling and still have a healthy reserve. Because it has always been garaged. The interior is in beautiful condition. The leather still smells fresh and there is not a hint of mold or any other offensive smell. The carpets are like new with matching floor mats. The glass is clean and clear with no fogging, chipping or sand blasting. The car is fully loaded complete with overdrive automatic transmission and posi-traction rear end, sun roof, six way power seats. It also has a factory built in role bar. I have had the automatic transmission overhauled to include Corvette clutch packs and it shifts like a dream. New mufflers and exhaust pipes make it sound healthy but not obnoxious. The first thing I did was replace the tires with a set of Michelin XGT V4’s which are rated at 160 MPH. I also installed the top of the line Pioneer XM radio with a GPS screen that comes out like a James Bond car. It also has a back up camera. This unit with new speakers cost me over $3000 installed and sounds great. Known defects. The battery has a small drain. If you leave it parked for over a month it will run down. I have traced it to the starter solenoid but have decided to live with it since the starter works great. I just plug a trickle charger to it when I am going to be out of town for more than a month or two. Befor I bought it something bounced off the left front tire and hit the fiberglass fender from the inside of the fender well. It cracked the paint. There is also a small cracked off piece of fiberglass on the right side ground fairing under the passenger door. Sometines the tackometer hangs up around 2,000 RPM and the fuel gauge does not go up past the ¾ full mark but is accurate below that mark. It will sit on ¾ for a long time then slowely work it’s way down towards E as the tank draws down. Again, the fuel gauge is accurate below the 3/4 tank mark. If you are looking for a reliable daily driver that will turn heads in the city and run the interstate with the best of them then this is your car. It was built in Youngstown, Ohio on a Chevrolet frame using a fuel injected Chevy 5 L Corvette V8 engine so you can get parts reasonably priced at any local auto store. I don’t know what the horsepower rating on it is but have been told it is a 300 HP model and it feels like it to me. The car is throughly road worthy. It is serviced and ready to drive anywhere. It's located close to the I 10 and I 95 interstates near Jacksonville, Florida. Plenty of Air Service into JAX Airport. I will be happy to pick you up at the airport if needed. Feel free to email me any questions at johnaic@aol.com. The best quote I have read about owning an Avanti is that " You won't see yourself coming down the other side of the highway". It is unique.
