This was the kind of car that you wanted to be split in and boogie down to the local strip with its top down and wearing your coolest threads and having a foxy lady by your side and get hip to the groove of your favorite tunes on your eight track tapes. If you ever wanted or fantasized about a car like this and said to yourself-Dream on, well, now your dream can become a reality. The Owner's Moment: Jeff shared with us some information about this classy convertible. When he was asked what he would consider to be the three selling points for this Oldsmobile, he replied by saying 1) the overall appearance, 2) the low mileage and 3) extremely fun to drive. On this Supreme, you will surely agree with Jeff. Jeff purchased this 72 Cutlass in Kitty Hawk, NC from a retired gentleman who was an avid Oldsmobile collector. Jeff was totally mesmerized when seeing this Cutlass convertible as it pulled out of his local supermarket parking lot. He did not want this car to leave his sight. So what did he do? He followed the car back to the owners home! He waited until the gentleman was out of the car and explained he was not a stalker and had never done this before, but was wondering if the convertible was for sale. Then he held his breath waiting for the answer. The gentleman smiled and invited him in to the garage where he had his other collectables which, to the delight of Jeff, led to his purchase of his dream car, this 72 Cutlass Supreme. That was a happy ending with a new beginning for Jeff, who fell in love at first sight and went after what he wanted and did not let this 72 convertible get away. Jeff kept it stored inside, 'supremely' maintained this Supreme himself, and mainly used his dream car for weekend drives. His most memorable experience in this classic was participation in his son's freshman year homecoming parade -- it was this Cutlass Convertible that everyone ran to, and, wanted to have their picture taken with it. It is believed that this Cutlass Supreme Convertible was completely restored over a decade or more ago. There are no maintenance records, so you will have to let the hundred plus photos and videos in the ad stand for themselves. This is one beautiful classic. Jeff was beaming when he told us that he always had admiring fans and lots of rubber-necking when driving this convertible around. He says the only item that may need repair in the future would be a possible rear seal. More recently, life got extremely busy for Jeff, which is the reason for selling this 72: He would relish passing it on to a curator that will love, honor and show this classic at car shows. You just do not find a Cutlass like this one in mellow yellow. Tops! The SUPREME What exactly makes a Cutlass, well, Supreme? For 1970, the Cutlass Supreme nameplate was switched to Oldsmobile's equivalent of the downsized Pontiac Grand Prix on the A-body, in order to give the division an entry in the burgeoning market for smaller personal luxury cars. The Supreme shared front and rear body parts with the standard Cutlass line and was always marketed as part of it. In addition to the two-door hardtop (Holiday Coupe), the Cutlass Supreme series for 1970 also included a four-door hardtop (Holiday Sedan) and regained the convertible body style. This seems to explain why the only place we see the Supreme badging is on the glove box. She has a light in the glove box too. Supreme interiors were more luxurious that those of other Cutlass models, with a choice of a Custom Sport notchback bench seat with armrest in Osborne cloth or Moroccan vinyl or, at no extra cost (on coupes and convertibles only), Strato bucket seats in rugged Moroccan vinyl (heavy duty, yet soft and pliable), as shown below. Available at extra cost with the bucket seats was a center console with floor-mounted shifter -- included in this '72 Supreme you are considering now.This white interior goes so beautifully with the exterior color. Small leak in a seal -- a mechanic told the owner we are assisting it is not worth removing engine to repair, as it is only used occasionally in parades and shows. (However, it does leak trans fluid a drop or two now.) Jeff says it has done that since he purchased the car, and it has never affected driving of the car, as he checks the fluids when he took it out of the garage before he drove it Drivers side rubber in front window is visibly worn at the top. Same with passenger side. It is likely from normal rubber aging and from where people might grab when they get in and out with the top down. .
