Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I am reluctantly selling my prize 1987 Toyota MR2, with about 113,000 miles, and will do my very best to honestly describe the vehicle and its condition. I know how difficult it can be to “virtually” evaluate a car. This beauty has been my ultra-dependable daily driver, and I have taken good care of her over the years. When I bought the car in 2005 I had the engine oil flushed (BG service) and switched to Mobil-1 oil (10W-30) and Mobil-1 gear lube (90W) for the transaxle. I regularly had the cooling system chemically flushed to eliminate corrosion. The engine is strong, with good and consistent compression (180 psi) across all cylinders. A Jet performance chip, cold air intake, and Bozal muffler combine to increase the power of this car over that of a stock MR2, with better throttle response and more torque at low RPMs. The car is fast and strong and runs like a dream! Removing the T-tops in good weather and driving this car on the highway will put a mile-wide grin on your face! The car was repainted probably only a couple of years before I bought it, and it shows. The paint is shiny and brilliant red (with clear coat) –these photos were taken without waxing the vehicle, and the red paint is NOT faded, as is common with MK1 MR2s. Note that any variations of the appearance of the red paint is an artifact of the photography and interaction of sun and shadows -the car is uniform in color. The interior is just about perfect, with no major tears, rips or wear. The Aiwa head unit with CD player with detachable face has been absolutely bulletproof. The A/C blows cold. I installed Dynamat soundproofing in the door panels, rear firewall, foot wells, and floor pan. Manual windows, door locks, and mirrors all function beautifully. Cruise control works perfectly. Other attributes and features: New weather stripping around doors and T-top openingNew oil cooler lines New speedo cable Newer catalytic converter Cooling system flushes every 1-2 years Newer windshield Brake pads and rotors at 87K miles New clutch master and slave cylinders New inner and outer tie rod ends Replaced valve cover gaskets New rear control arms Dunlop tires (185/60R14) with 50%+ tread life Replaced headlight and wiper control switch Car will come with a sport steering wheel, miscellaneous intake components, and trunk weather stripping There are probably other things I replaced, but cannot remember all of them! I have many, but not all, receipts for parts and labor. Now, the not so good:The T-tops will leak a bit in a heavy rain (I have never seen MK1 T-tops that did NOT leak!). There is rust in the rear quarters and some along the body at the windshield, and there is damage to the body cladding on the passenger side (see photos). I have replacement rocker panel components, front and rear, to repair this damage. The panels are dark blue in color, and I know a good body shop in the DC area which can fix the rust and cladding damage for a very reasonable price. The front chin spoiler is a bit rough (another common problem with these cars). The power antenna no longer retracts or extends, but this is a minor and easy repair. The car could probably use struts soon, but rides fine now. I have a good mechanic who can replace them at a good price, if you are interested. In Maryland, and I suspect in most other states, the car can be registered as an historic vehicle and so does not need to undergo mechanical or emissions inspections. A $500 deposit is due within two days of the auction end. While I prefer the new owner to pick up the car, and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, I can help with shipping the vehicle if need be, but you must make the arrangements -I will deliver the car to the shipper. Note that if you do pick up the car, you will have to bring a transfer tag with you, as I will remove and return my license plate.Well, that’s about it –please feel free to contact me with any questions! Please note that the mileage on the vehicle may increase slightly as I drive it to and from work. Thanks for looking!NOTE -THE SPARE ROCKER PANELS (SKIRTS), SPORT STEERING WHEEL, WEATHERSTRIPPING, ETC. MENTIONED ABOVE IS INCLUDED WITH THE CAR! THANKS!
