Vehicle Detail

1979 Pontiac Trans Am - 6.6 - WS6 NO RESERVE This is s 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, Factory 6.6 Litre 403 Olds, Numbers Matching Vin on Engine, Rare WS6 Special Performance Package (4 wheel Disc Brakes, Sport Suspension, 15X8 Snowflake Rally Wheels etc), AC, PW, 51-Sundance Yellow / Camel Tan, Power Antenna, Cruise Control, Hood Decal etc.. 1979 MSRP - $7758.83 - Have Build Sheet and PHS DOC's. This car was bought new at Bob Godfrey Pontiac, Eugene, Oregon. It has been in Eugene all of its life, until that last month or so, when I brought it up to Salem, about 60 miles north. This car had an interesting life its first few years. Not sure who the original owner was, but soon after it was purchased new. It was confiscated by the Eugene Police Dept. for unknown reasons, your guess is as good as mine. The Eugene Police Dept, thought lets put this Trans Am to good use, there must have been a muscle car enthusiast on the force. It was perfect for a Under Cover Police Car, it had the power and best of all the WS6 Package, perfect for any chase scene. It served duty for a few years. It was then put on consignment at a local car dealer when they retired it. A young lady and her daughter needed a good car, she had a Toyota SR5 pickup, back in the 80's these were really popular, the dealer traded her straight across for the Trans Am, I believe that dealer is still in business. At the time she did not know it was used as a Police car, she found out one day when she was pulled over by a Eugene police officer, and she was escorted to the station. They informed here that they needed the official lic. plates off it, that they had forgotten to take off when it was in service. She owned the car for about 23 years, had the car painted in the late 80's. She sold it to a gentleman in Eugene in 2007 who is a County Sheriff. I aquired the Trans Am from him recently. This is actually a pretty good car, it is very solid and in good shape for its age. Here in Oregon we do not salt the roads, we have mild winter, and cool summers. Some of the best surviving cars are right here in Oregon. This car needs a good restoration, but you will save thousands of your hard earned $$$'s on a car like this. This car is not rusty, it has very good floors, frame rails, rockers, everything is ver solid. No rust bubbles in the rockers or around the wheel lips, or quarters very clean. The paint is old and worn thin in spots, they painted around all the decals. The paint was a quick respray back in the 80's. It needs to be painted again. There really are no signs of bondo abuse on it, no bondo cracks, overall a very solid body. I have one of those cheap Car Show Magnets, and can put it anywhere on the car and it sticks great all over, so I think the car has very little body filler on it. It has general bumps and bruises, lots of paint chips, small dings. The largest ones, around around the door handles, it is a little wavy around handles, probably from having these big old doors slammed through the years. Also the the drivers rear quarter there is a larger crease as you can see. Overall a very sound body, that would not take to much to get painted down the road. The factory Trans Am nose, fender flares, rear bumper cover, and spoiler are all in very good shape, no major damage or brakes. The nose has typical spider webing on the edges, but nothing that is of concern. It has dealer installed T-Tops by Cars and Concepts Skylites, you will notice they are very nice looking because they cover the whole roof line. They came in either polished aluminum or black. These were the polished versions, someone sanded on them in the past, so they need to be refinished or painted black on the edge. Overall the body on the car needs some minor work, but nothing serious, no major accidents, very clean for what it is. All the inner door jams look good, no rust, very clean. The Vin is on the dash were it should be, matches Vin on door, Engine, and the title all match. The engine is the factory original, 6.6 Olds, numbers matching, Vin on the drivers side pad. It does start right up, and idles good. It does not burn any oil, or blow any smoke. I am not sure if the engine has ever been out of the car. It does have good throttle response, and is very dependable. It has factory AC, you can see from the video I put in this auction the AC pump is connected and the belt is on it. It currently is not working, the fan switch is not working in the car. Overall, it has all the hard to find parts for the AC connected, so if you choose to rebuild the AC system one day everything is there for you. The transmission, shifts nicely, and has a shift kit in it. Not sure if it is original, I could not find the Vin on it, it is a Turbo 350. It has a new Shifter Cable installed in the last couple weeks, and works good. The rearend seems in good shape, no noises, or whinning. The factory 4 wheel disc brakes work very good. It has new shocks on the rear. Overall it is a good handling car, with this suspension on it, and the wider factory 15X8 Snowflake wheels. It has P235/60/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's all the way around, I would say there is about 80% tread on all 4 tires. Also there are worn evenly and are in good shape. Overall mechanically it seems to be in pretty good shape. It is very depenable, and wouldn't hesitate taking it on a small trip, as long as you were mechanically inclined, you never know with these old cars. It has good oil pressure as well. The exhaust system is good, but they have been stopped short of the rearend. Interior is mostly complete, and original. It will need the seats recovered they are torn and seams split. Carpet is stained n spots, but no holes. The dashpad is in fairly good shape, no cracks in the front. I shot a Video of the dash in general, what works and want does not. Here is a quick overview. Windshield Wipers work, but need new blades, Gas Gauge works, Volt Meter Works, Odometer works Reads 43,915 assume it has rolled over at least once, Speedometer works, Temp Gauge works, Kenwood CD player works, Dash Lights work, Dome light does not work, Floor lights work, when you open passenger door not drivers, Oil Pressure Works, Rear Defroster works, Heater Fan is not working bad switch, Cruise Control not sure if works, Power windows work, but the switch is funny, watch video and I expain it better, horn does not work. All exterior lights work, turn signals, back up lights, headlights, high beams. It needs new door rubber, and gaskets, the ones in it are original and cracked. The door panels are warped more so the drivers side. The T-tops do not leak, but were the edge meets the door glass, the gaskets are getting bad, so in rain, the windows leak. The rear package tray next to the speakers need recovered. Overall the interior is usable, but needs things replanced and repaired in general with a car of this age. 503-910-2085 - Jason - Blue Oval Ranch Inc. - Salem, Oregon - DA0612 Terms are pretty Simple, if you can pay for it, within the time I allow, and can follow the guidelines, then please bid, if you can't then don't. I have a large magazine collection around 20,000 and counting. Went out today, to see what I could find on the 1979 Trans Am. Found this one, from 1979, Car and Driver. I found it fitting since the cover car is Yellow with Red bird on the hood just like mine. The Road Test inside is on the WS6 Trans Am as well, so that is some good information. The test is on a 400, 4spd. Car and Driver said in the article "..Wrap a Trans Am Body Round the WS6 Package Suspension and Brake Pieces and you discover maybe the best handling production car ever from an American manufacturer." It is a 6 page feature. Factory Build Sheet. PHS Documents (Pontiac Historical Services) Partial VIN number on the drivers side pad of the engine, 1st digit in VIN, and last 8 digits.
