Vehicle Detail

1947 Chevrolet Fleetline Country Club Aerosedan In post-WWII America, automobiles retained much of the early ‘40s appearance for a couple of years. By 1947, auto production was once again in full swing and the factories were retooling for more dynamic models, most of which would begin to appear in 1949. A notable exception was the Fleetline Aerosedan, a very swoopy fastback design that put Chevrolet ahead of most of the old, round, humpy looking cars. This sleek version of the Chevy was to capture 197,000 buyers in that year and the sleek lines of this model today remain pleasing to the eye, and a popular favorite wherever classic cars are. This model is adorned with dozens of chrome strips on the fenders and doors and the graceful curve of the front fenders, extending well into the doors of the car gave in a luxury car veneer that ensured the popularity of this car. Like all Chevrolet cars of the time, it is powered by the reliable 216 CID in-line 6, and the reliable “3 on the tree” manual transmission gets the shifting job done. This car is patterned after the aircraft of the time – the DC3 and the Boeing Stratocruiser serving as inspiration for its design. The Super Deluxe Fleetline Aerosedan two door was offered with a Country Club option - wood paneling on the sides that sets this car aside from the standard version. Contrasting the Raven Black exterior, this wood trim makes the car look more like a luxury cabin cruiser of the era. The interior is original corded wale cloth in a light shade of tan, and the dashboard retains all its original gauges, knobs and chrome trim. The glass is in first-rate condition and all the chrome trim is intact, though some of it has lost its full luster and could benefit from new chrome plating. This Aerosedan features the optional third bumper guard in the rear that folds down for easier access to the spacious trunk. In the interest of laying everything about this car out for you, let us be clear that it is unrestored, but the engine has been overhauled and the Country Club wood trim has been replaced. The paint is mostly original and has the patina of over 60 years of exposure. The finish has a great shine, remarkably few blemishes, and no evidence of any body damage ever. The brakes are marginal and the tie rod ends and bushings need to be replaced. The interior has some small imperfections, but is very serviceable and clean. Underneath, there is no rust in the frame or body, and it is evident that this car has been well cared for all if its 60+ years. It would be an excellent candidate for a complete restoration or could easily be transformed into a unique restomod. An Aero with the fine, silky look of this car is extremely rare. If you think it might be for you, don’t be bashful. Contact us and come take a look. We invite inspection by serious buyers.
