About Me 1972 Chevy Nova 2-door Coupe San Jose, CA 95110 Time in San Jose Vehicle Details Year: 1972 Make: Chevrolet Model: Nova Mileage: 63,672 Transmission: Automatic Engine: 400, 4-barrel Exterior Color: Gold Interior Color: Black Title: Clear Description This very clean, original looking '72 Nova was built at the Van Nuys, California assembly plant with a minimal amount of optional equipment. It was delivered to Maggini Chevrolet in Berkeley, California with the 250 6-cyl engine, automatic transmission, power steering, AM radio, and the deluxe body side moldings. It was purchased at the Maggini Chevrolet dealership by a young lady who used it for school and general transportation until selling it in July of 2009. At the time of transfer to the second owner, the original mileage as documented by the California Department of Motor Vehicles was only 55,107. Currently, it still has under 64,000 miles. This has been an outdoor car all it's life and the California sun and parking lots took their toll on the original lacquer paint. It's been repainted twice since new. The current job is a very nice driver quality base coat/clear coat finish that has never been color sanded or polished. There are no reproduction trim, emblems, or bumpers installed. Those are the OEM bumpers, and they've never been repaired or re-chromed. The interior is original, with the exception of the package tray and carpets. The upper rear seat back, and the front seat have had some normal wear and sun damage repaired. All the dash instruments, accessories, and various indicator lights are in working condition. The second owner installed the Apline CD player. It drives and steers well, and feels solid when you drive it like you would expect from with only 64K miles. There are no strange clunks or wandering over the road. The engine is a 1972 400 cubic inch small block Chevy (3951511 block casting). It has all the OEM manifolds, brackets, pulleys and California smog equipment in place, and at first glance it would pass for one of the factory 307 engines available that year, but if you look closely you would notice the Quadrajet 4-barrel and 2 " dual exhaust. It's a lot of fun to drive when your friends ask you "Hey, where did you get the Grandma car?" and then you leave them in a cloud of tire smoke. If there is a weak link, it would have to be the braking system. It needs power disc brakes. The 400 engine did not actually change the weight that much, but with the torque and horsepower well over twice that of the original 6, it pushes the manual drum brakes to their limits. It would be a lot of fun at car shows, or a great starting point to take it in another direction.
