Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1986 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 diesel capable of running straight vegetable oil being sold AS IS. The car runs, but has oil in the coolant, likely due to head/head gasket problems. This car will need work. I have owned the car since 2008 and have done quite a bit of maintenance in that time. In the last 1,000 miles, the following has been replaced: -new clutch -new rear main seal -new Michelin tires -new rear wheel cylinders -new cylinder head and gasket (though still having issues) As stated, the cylinder head and head gasket were replaced about 1,000 miles ago. A brand new TopLine cylinder head was installed. The car runs well and starts up immediately, but oil has started to show up in the coolant. A trusted VW mechanic I know says it's likely an issue with the cylinder head or head gasket. Other options: -5 speed manual transmission -straight vegetable oil auxiliary fuel system -plug-in block heater -Yakima roof rack When running in optimal condition, this car gets around 45 mpg on either diesel or vegetable oil. The vegetable oil system is a second fuel system separate from the original diesel fuel system. A second fuel tank has been installed in the trunk for vegetable oil. That tank is heated by the engine's cooling system, bringing the vegetable oil to the proper viscosity to run through the engine. To use the system, you start the car running on normal diesel fuel. Once the car has been running at operating temperature for several minutes, you flip two switches and the engine begins feeding from the vegetable oil tank. At this point, you are running on straight vegetable oil. Before turning the car off, you simply switch back to diesel for a couple of minutes to clear the fuel lines and injectors of any vegetable oil before shut down, leaving the car ready to start on diesel. Running on vegetable oil is a joy in this car. Not only is it a great conversation starter, but it's also using what is normally seen as waste for fuel. Used vegetable oil can be obtained from restaurants, meaning your fuel only costs you the time it takes to collect. Included with the car is the complete service manual from Bentley Publishers and a 25 gallon barrel of clean vegetable oil. I have enjoyed this car, but I am selling because I have many other projects in my life and do not have time to give this car the attention it deserves. The car currently runs and drives well. If more convenient for the buyer, I can deliver the car to either St. Louis or Springfield, Missouri. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Good luck and happy bidding!
