Vehicle Detail
This car was built into a Hot Rod in 1958 for a Hollywood series. It was one of three hot rods builted for the series that ran from 1958 - 1964. The series was 77 Sunset Strip. After the series it went into someones collection for a good 30 yrs. It was in a rock stars collection for a while and then serviced and put on auction in New York with Rand/Workman. I bought it from a guy in NJ in 2007. This car is a rolling piece of history. Flathead V8 In great condition offery heads, Eddie Meryer intake, with strombergs carbs, auto tranny with a quickchange rearend. Interior is Black and white. There's a arc 2500 record player that was put in in the 50's and yes it works it plays 45 records. This car is so cool everything is vintage in it. The steering wheel is a banjo wheel I think from from a 40 ford. Even the rearveiw mirror has the old ford windup clock in it. You can see more photos at my web site www.hotrodjoe.net It was appraised in 12-2004 for $60,000.00 I have documentation of it. It sold for at auction for $35,000.00. I need to sell for health reasons. Featured in “Car Craft” Magazine. This unusual 1931 Ford began life as a two-door sedan and then built in 1958 as a hot rod. Lot Number: 402: Fri. 3:00-4:00 pm Year: 1931 Make: Ford Model: Model A Item Description: Two-door sedan, 239 cubic inch L-head Ford V8 engine, 2-speed automatic transmission, Black with white “Itchy” pin stripping, white and black tuck roll interior. Most early Ford hot rods are based on coupes or roadsters. This unusual 1931 Ford began life as a two-door sedan. Built in 1958 as a hot rod, it is powered by a 1953 Ford flathead V8 with Offenhauser heads, Fenton Headers, tri-stromberg 97’s with a vintage 2 speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. It is exactly as it was in 1958 and a period correct 1950’s California Hot Rod. Including cable-operated exhaust cut-outs under the car which can be hand operated inside the car. These rare cut-outs were created in the 1950's to give the engine more power when racing. It also has dual bee hive oil filters and coolers, spotlights, electric windows, moon gauges, and original banjo steering wheel. It has a rare 1950’s record player holder under the dash. These record players can still be found in the market place. Back in the 1950’s these record players were used to play 45-inch records when the car was stopped. Has disk and drum brakes. The current owner has added some safety equipment, such as a rear end stabilizer and seatbelts. Other than that, it is 1950s all the way. This exact car was in the ABC-TV series “77 Sunset Strip” that ran from 1958 to 1964. As far as the current owner knows, it spent its entire 70-plus years in California. He bought it in Hollywood from a well-known guitarist and musician. This car has been lovingly restored and maintained. Much time and money has been spent on it. The paint is quite beautiful. Featured in “Car Craft” Magazine. The current owner says, “I have had many cars in my life; nothing like this however - quite an amazing looker.” Estimated value $60,000 - $70,00 Click images below to enlarge above EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE, ACQUIRE Event Tickets & Registration / Featured Event / About Us / Contact Us Privacy / Terms & Conditions / Site Map © 2005 Rand Workman Inc.
