Vehicle Detail

Offered for sale is the Artie Johnson Roadster. This car has a long and documented history as a Drag car, Hot Rod and Street Rod going back into the early 50's in the New England area. Connecticut more specifically. In the current configuration, it is powered by a 289 Ford V-8 with C4 automatic from a 67 Ford Falcon, 56 Chevy rear, dropped axle w/Hurst Airhart disc brakes (first set on the east coast at that time). The suspension components all chrome plated and have a great patina as does the entire car. Tan caramel interior in very comfortable and is period correct. Tan top is chopped and has side curtains and toneau cover. Car is in "as preserved" condition and is ready to drive and enjoy. It is NOT a 100 point Pebble Beach lawn ornament, nor should it ever be! It has survived all the trends and is still cutting edge in style and appearance. Even with the chips, scratches and flaws (and there are many), it stands out in a sea of want-ta-bes because it's a REAL HOT ROD. As a friend once told me, "you can't buy what time gives you for free". He's right. This car is only for the person who can appreciate what it is and is content to leave it alone. I am selling the car to fund future education for a family member. I am open to reasonable offers. I am told So Cal Speed shop offers their roadsters for a starting price of $125,000 and is all reproduction parts. Yes, they are beautiful and the workmanship is top quality. If that is the type of roadster that impresses you, then this car is NOT for you. If history, racing heritage and being there when Hot Rodding was unfolding across America means something to you, then I would be happy to talk with you. The car is available for personal inspection by appointment. It is located in York, PA and I am happy to show it. There is a wonderful story in the #7 issue of Rodders Journal, written by Ken Gross, that article tells more about the car than space allows here. Please ask questions and call if you like. If you are interested in this car, I suggest you come see it for yourself. Buyer will arrange transportation.
