Vehicle Detail
INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTION You are viewing my 1997 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Extended Cab two-wheel drive Pickup. This vehicle is equipped with the 6.5L EFI (electronic fuel injection) HO (High Output) Turbo-charged Diesel V8 (RPO code "L65"), 4L80-E (electronically controlled) heavy-duty four speed automatic transmission (RPO code "MT1"), 4.10:1 Positraction (limited-slip) differential (RPO codes "GT5" and "G80"), and GVW rated (RPO code "C7A") at 10,000 lbs. I am the fourth owner. The mileage is 126,776 as of the date of this auction (pictures were taken late October 2010). As a car collector, I bought this truck to occasionally tow single car automobile trailers and move auto parts. There is a gooseneck setup from a previous owner but I never used it so I do not know its condition. It also has the flat “4-way” and the round “7-way” (installed subsequent to these pictures being taken) trailer connector wiring. Obviously, as a one ton dually with an 8 foot bed, it is capable of much more than I am using it for .. towing my one-car trailer with a 5,000 lb. car on it and this truck "don't even break a sweat" so to speak. Quite simply, it just will not easily fit in my garage (due to length and flared rear quarters, I just cannot walk around it reducing my garage's usefulness) so I am buying a non-dually 3/4 ton pickup or SUV. The 6.5 turbo-diesel engine runs very well: powerful, smooth and hardly “broken in” ... for a diesel that is. As the only diesel truck I ever owned, I do not know enough to debate or defend which “Big Three” manufacturer had the "best" diesels back in 1997 (i.e., GM 6.5L Turbo Diesels, the Powerstrokes at Ford, or the Cummins’ at Dodge) as each had their strengths and weaknesses. This truck just plain runs very strong, gets nearly 20 m.p.g on the highway (unloaded, 65mph at 2,200 rpm), and has no unusual noises or excessive smoking at startup or during operation. The glow plugs were replaced in October 2009. After sitting for couple of days, it does show a drop or two of oil on the driveway but the crankcase oil level is never abnormally low. A previous owner did relocate the FSD (Fuel Solenoid Driver, also called the Pump Mounted Driver or PMD). Those of you who know where the FSD was installed at the factory, and then had trouble with it overheating, also know by weighing your wallet after the replacement of the factory-installed FSD that a relocation is a prudent move, A big, honkin' heat exchanger for the FSD was installed as well, which is why the “Turbo Diesel” top engine cover is not in place (the previous owner gave it to me, but it obviously won't fit anymore). All six tires, 215/85-16 white-letter Hankook radials (Load Level E), are brand new in 2010 therefore only have about 2,500 miles on them. The spare tire is not mounted (its just loose in the bed), so I do not know the condition of the winch mounting system under the bed. The running boards, splash guards, and tonneau cover (Velcro sides, no-drilling, rollup model) are also brand new this year. The aftermarket spray-on bedliner is old but in fair to good condition with some peeling near the front of the bed. I removed (but have retained) the extended door-mounted mirrors that were on the truck from the factory. I had a windshield chip repaired, but otherwise all glass is excellent. This Silverado is equipped with the following options and equipment worth noting: air conditioning (will not stay charged), cruise control, power steering, power brakes (front disc/rear drum), power locks, power windows, trans cooler, AM/FM Stereo CD player (OE model which I installed), intermittent wipers, sliding rear glass, and tilt steering column. As a work truck, it has cloth seats and a vinyl floor mat. The seats, headliner, and dash are in very good condition. I did refinish this Silverado in 2010 in its original Emerald Green Metallic finish. The truck was two-toned, with Gold side panels over the majority Emerald Green, but I wanted a single color so I chose the Green because (1) its just a real cool color and (2) that was the primary color anyway so no jams or underhood refinishing was needed. I did identify previous body repair in the fenders behind the front wheels, but the vehicle is otherwise virtually rust-free. Also notice on the doors that I only used plastic plugs to cover the holes for the extended side mirrors should a new owner wish to reinstall them. This 1997 Silverado 3500 “is what it is” as they say. Not a "show truck" by any means but it is a nice looking, strong running diesel workhorse with a lot of "git 'er done" left in it. It gets pretty good city and highway mileage to boot and did exactly what I needed it to do, except easily fit in my home garage. I hope it finds a new home with a buyer who can utilize more of what it can do, hopefully for a long time to come. AUCTION SUCCESS CONSIDERATIONS I have established a reasonable reserve for this 1997 Silverado 3500 which will not be provided while the auction is running. Please consider bidding during the auction to the extent and level you deem appropriate and based on whatever factors are important to you. If reserve is not met, I may provide Second Chance Offers through the Ebay system, but note that this is only possible with people who actually bid during the auction. If you get such an Offer, it will be for a 24-hour duration and of course please feel free to write me for confirmation and I will provide a phone number at which I can be reached. This also means that if you were not a bidder, contact with me through the Ebay system after the auction ends is not likely to result in a successful transaction. Last, please note that I reserve the right to end this auction early at my sole discretion. I am sorry in advance but the frequency of non-paying, unresponsive bidders makes the following necessary. I appreciate anyone's legitimate interest in my auction that leads to responsible bidding, that in turn forms the basis for a potentially successful transaction. However, please DO NOT BID AT ALL if you do not have any required financing, insurance, storage, customs and duties information, spouse's permission ... whatever it is you need ... IN PLACE to allow you to honor your winning bid. Further, bidders with less than 5 (five) feedbacks will have their bids immediately canceled and then blocked from further bidding for the duration of the auction unless you contact me in advance of bidding. Bidders outside North America (anywhere other than the US, Canada, or Mexico “mainland”) are welcome to bid, but also must email me before bidding. INSPECTION AND WARRANTY INFORMATION Any and all relevant and appropriate questions you submit will be answered promptly and as thoroughly as possible by email only. Again, given that this is a used vehicle please do not have unreasonable expectations as to its current condition or future condition under your ownership. If you require it, please make all pre-bid inspections (at the sole expense of the bidder) before committing to purchase the car. Inspections can be done by appointment only until 48 hours before the auction’s end. Although I believe I have described this vehicle accurately, please note that this vehicle is sold "as-is, where-is” with no express or implied warranties or guarantees of any kind. With the required legal statements provided, I am a reasonable person and I know potential buyers may not be able to see this car before bidding. If the winning bidder was unable do a pre-bid inspection and then determines that, after submitting a timely deposit but before taking delivery, I did not accurately represent the car in some significant and obvious way, I will try to work it out with you. As reasonable people, if we cannot figure something out, I will immediately refund your entire deposit and we can both move on without any further obligation to each other. Please recognize that this is not an invitation for potential bidders to skip your own pre-bid investigations and is not an opportunity for me and the winning bidder to try later to negotiate away our respective contractual responsibilities. PAYMENT AND STORAGE A $500 deposit is required from the winning bidder, due electronically via PayPal within 24 hours after the auction ends, to hold the vehicle. I will not be accepting trades. Full payment is due within 7 days of auction end via cash or certified bank check (drawn on a major US bank). I can hold the vehicle in indoor storage for 15 days at no charge to the winning bidder after the auction (the charge is $15.00 per day after 15 days). Thank you for viewing my auction. On Dec-16-10 at 08:37:37 PST, seller added the following information: I have added two pictures of the gooseneck setup in response to a question I got. Again, I am certain anyone who knows how these systems operate can figure out whats going on. The ball appears to be folded down toward driver side of bed underneath a small metal door. I also added a picture of the "Drawtite" controller a previous owner used, presumably in conjunction with the gooseneck setup. Again, I do not use this setup and cannot confirm whether it all still operates properly.
