1970 Toyota Crown Deluxe 51,931 Original Miles - Survivor - Bought new at Evel Knievel Imports - Butte, Montana NO RESERVE This 1970 Toyota Crown Deluxe, has live a good life, and has been well loved. The original owner Mrs. Gorsh, named this car "Maime" (may-me), everyone in the family called it by name, not many even new it was a Crown, just that it was "Maime". Mrs Gorsh lived here life in Butte, Montana. She decided to buy a new car in 1970, she went to Knievel Imports, (Evel Knievel's Import Dealership). It makes a great conversation piece, since Evel Knievel is well known for his Motor Cycle Dare Devil Shows. The inside of the warranty card, is all written by Knievel and signed by him as well, R.E. Knievel, his real name was Robert Craig Knievel, but signed this as R.E(Evel) Knievel. Anyways, just a nice add to the history of this pampered car. It only has 51,931 Miles on it, and it really shows. This car is a true survivor, in every way, it can only be original once. Mrs. Gorsh, passed away in the mid 1990's, the family loved her and Maime (the Crown). It was given to here Brother, and he took care of it for the following years. He passed away earlier this year, and I knew a family member, and that is how I came to aquire Maime. As you already know, the Toyota Crown is a pretty rare car and rarely seen. They built them in Station wagon, Coupe and Sedan. The engine is a Inline 6, SOHC, and was the base motor for the Legendary Toyota 2000 GT Super Car. This car is wearing most of its orignal paint, it could be touched up, or have a quick respray, the body is excellant, and in great shape. Interior is in great shape, the seats are very soft, and not brittle, it is amazing how they have survived to stay in this condition. There is one small 1" crack in the drivers side lumber, and that is it, for the rest of the seats, they are mint. The headliner, is in great shape, no tears, no stains, it is very tight, and looks great. Steering wheel, is amazing, no cracks, no wear, the cleanest original steering wheel I have seen in a long time. Console, and Toyoglide shifter, and also very clean, look at clean the handle is, not worn. Instrument cluster and guages, again, no where, very very clean. All the gauges work, the heater works excellant, interior lights work, rear map lights work as well. The dash pad does not have any cracks, but over on the passenger side, it came up a bit, and is warped, not sure what to do, a professional upholstry guy might be able to heat it up, and put it back, I did not want to touch it. Carpet is original, there are a few wear spots, where you get in and out of the car. The carpet is usable, but has been touched up color wise, becausse of normal fading. The door panels are amazing, no warps, no water damage, very clean, all of them look the same. Overall great interior, it does not smell old or musty, this also was a NO Smoker car, so it smells good inside. Body on the car is in great shape. I took pictures all over the place for you to see, the undercarraige is in great shape. Most of the car is still in original paint. The rear quarters have been repainted a long time ago, and have not held up as good as the original paint. There is 2 ways to go with the car, keep it in original paint, and have the quarters and the front drivers fender repainted to match better, and keep the rest of the car original, or have the car resprayed to freshen it up. The body is very clean, I will go ahead and explain each body panels underneath the pictures. Overall, a very clean little car, yes it has chips and scrathes, there are many little dings on the car, but for an original car that has been used, and enjoyed, it is great. It has great patina. This is the type of car if you decide to repaint it, you would not have to do the jams, or under the hood etc, those areas are very clean and original. The car has not had that much drive time since 2000, it has been stored. When I got the car, it run, did a small tune up on it, and drove it a little. It still needs a good tune, valves sound great, no noise. The carberator works good, but I can not get it tuned exactly right, I am not an expert tuner. I had the valve cover off, and the rockers and cam look in good shape. I did a compression test on it. 1 - 173, 2 - 175, 3 - 178, 4 - 180, 5 - 176, 6 - 180. So very good compression. It idles good, but really needs a good carberauter tune up and get the timing all set, to get it totally dialed in for the best performance. Out on the road it does well, but you can feel it surge a little at times, I think it has a lot to do with fuel pressure, or float level etc. It does not blow any smoke, seems to burn real clean. This car really needs to be driven and enjoyed, it has been on the sidelines for the last 10 years, so a good tune, and someone to really get out and drive it will do worlds of wonders. The cooling system works excellant, it does run nice and cool. It is amazing how original it is underneath the hood, and the condition. The transmission works good, it needs probably to be flushed and have a new filter, before major driving, same as the rearend. The brakes work on it, but the pedal is pretty stiff, I think the brakes are good on it, but would probably do a general brake maintence on it before you really get out and do some major driving around. Overall mechanically it is in great shape, just needs a couple weekends of tuning, and routine maintenance. This is the original interior, it is amazing how nice the seats are, great condition. What really is amazing, how a Japanese car from the day, was so luxurious, the seats are very plush and fell great. These Crowns were top of the line, and above all other imports that came into the USA during the 1970's. This is the famous 2M Toyota Motor, it is a 6cyl SOHC, 2300cc. This motor was the base engine for the famous 2000GT Sports Car. Look at all the orignal stickers on this engine compartment, and how clean everything is. This Crown was bought new at "Evel Knievel's", Knievel Imports, in Butte, Montana. Yes the same guy who is Famous for his Motor Cycle Dare Devil Motor Cycle Shows. MSRP on this Crown, was $3094 when new. This is the service booklet and the orignal Warranty Card. This is pretty cool. This was fill out by Evel Knievel, and you will see that he signed it as well, so who ever wins this little Crown, can take this out and show people, it is a great conversation piece. As you see there, Mrs. Gorsh was 59 years old when she bought this Crown new from Evel Knievel, and here annual family income as under $5000. On the left is a small poster, about 9"X13", and the right is the factory brochure, it has lots of pictures and information on the Crown, it is about 5 pages. This is the original Crown Brochure, and a booklet on the Toyota dealers, parts, and different Models. Here is a picture of Mrs. Gorsh, in the late 80's She did not drive Maime, to much after this picture. If you notice there is a sticker on the edge of the door jam, that sticker is still on the car today. It has the same tires on it when I bought it, but they were bad, so I changed them to what you see on it, now, the white wall looks nice. Around 1995 after Mrs. Gorsh passed away her prized Crown was given to her brother, in Washington. He has since passed away as well, and I got the car from the family. The color of the car is called C. Opal, at times it looks whitish, green or yellow, depend on the lighting. The grill is in excellant shape, I like the design of it and how it wraps into fender. Here you can see a 2 light indentions on the valance, and typical rock chips. One small indention at the corner of the marker light. This is really a neat little sticker on the corner of the bumper, this was a Factory Toyota sticker, does anyone know what it says. It never was removed from the car, it was a treat to see it still there. The car has most of its original paint. The drivers fender, rear quarter panel, and the passenger quarter have been repainted. I don't see hardly any evidence of damage on any of the panels, they are very clean inside, the truck area is in great shape, inner quarters are very straight. I see a little spot of bondo on the drivers quarter, above the wheel, and that is it. The body on this car is really clean, with no major rust issues, there are little chips on it with surface rust, but NO bubbles or issues on the outer body, extremely clean. This car would look even better with a quick respray. If I were to keep the car though, I would just repaint the areas I talked about and do some touch up here an there, and keep this car in original paint as long as I could. But the next owner will have to decide. It comes with Washington State Plates, I had this Montana Plate from 1969-1970 hanging in my shop, and I found it fitting to put it on for the pictures since this is the type of plate it would have been wearing in 1970, since it spent most of its life in Butte, Montana. You can see underneath the drivers light, on the filler panel it is slightly pushed in a little, not to much, but it is there. It is running in all the photos, so I could move it in different positions. You an see the quarter panel is lighter as well, there are various chips on it. The interior is in great shape, everytime I show friends the interior they can't believe it, the interior is in amazing condition, and very useable, most of it looks almost brand new. There are a few minor issues, carpet is worn, one small crack on the lumber on the drivers seat, and the end of the dash pad has shrunk and curled up, it might be able to be fixed, but I didn't want to damage it. Radio is original, but is not working. Notice in my pictures, that the clock does work, which is amazing. It is missing the little knob on the fan switch, by the way the Heater and blower work great. All the door panels are in this condition, they look almost brand new. Very clean under the dash, no cut wires, just like it looked from the factory. Brake pedal is hardly worn, and the gas pedal is perfect, a good sign for a low mileage car. The dash pad came up in the corner, I am not sure if it can be heated and streched back down, a professional could probably work it out, I didn't want to mess it up, so I left it alone. Took my eyes off the road for a quick second, to show you the gauges all working, notice the clock works as well, took to pictures at different speeds. Original Factory Jack in place, notice how Toyota went the extra mile to up trunk material on the inner quarters. Inside the quarters are very nice, no signs of any major damage, they are in good shape. Some light surface rust on the trunk floor, nothing major no pin holes, this could be cleaned up and repainted to look nice agian. This is the area were the spare tire is. There is some surface rust on the bottom of the quarter, but no bubbles, just from general rock chips. The darker spot next to the drain plug has a pin hole. There is some heavier surface rust from inside the truck, that needs a good cleaning, and might need a couple small repairs. This is the rear passenger quarter, again just some surface rust, nothing major no bubbles, just chips from regular road driving. Rockers on this car are excellant. The only filler on this panel that I can see, is a small 5" spot above the wheel, see about 6" up from the wheel lip. The rest of the quarter is in great shape. They only painted this one below the trim line. The drivers fender was repainted, not sure why, it is really solid, no rust, no bondo to speak of. I put a magnet all over the car, and it is really solid and stuck all over. This quarter was repainted as well, it is really solid, no rust, no bubbles, and I didn't see any signs of bondo on it, inside it is really clean as well. When they painted this quarter on this side, they did it above the trim as well. You can see were they tried to blend it into the panel behind the corner of the window. THANKS AND HAPPY BIDDING!!!!
