Vehicle Detail
1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428cj R-code It's drivable as is. I have done a lot of the mechanical things needed and have been driving the car a lot in the last couple of years. This car would need complete restoration if you want to have in car shows. This summer I went on a 600+ mile trip with it from Denver to Steamboat Springs and it ran terrific. Everything works on the car and it could be driven anywhere. Below I have listed everything I have done to the car and you can assume that if it is not listed it will still need done at some point. Engine: The engine in the car is an orignal Cobra Jet 428 but is out of a '69 Torino. I did have the engine out and confirmed the "C" casting on the back and the 428 casting in the water jackets. It also has the extra webbing on the main saddles. I had the heads off and installed new valve springs because I was not sure of their age. I then confirmed that they are the CJ correct heads that are orignal to the block. I took the pan off and confirmed the CJ rods and 1U crank. The pistons are not the orignal pistons and are .030 over, so it has been rebuilt at some point. The car, to my understanding, did sit for a long time and to be safe I think the engine should be completely rebuilt. I think the ring tension has gone away and it does use some oil but does not smoke. When I had the heads off I looked for a ring ridge and there was none. It does have a performance cam. I put a video on youtube so you can hear it run. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfLy-2iEZGE Transmission: Correct C6 transmission that goes with the engine. '69 Torino "R" code servo and cast iron tail shaft. Works very well, shifts solid and has no slippage. I beliveve a little higher stall than stock but not too high and works well in the combination. Differential: 9 inch 3:25 to 1 gear ratio. I completely went thru, new gears, new detroit locker, new bearings, new axle seals and original 31 spline axles. Brakes: All new 2 years ago, new lines, hoses, master cyl, booster, rotors and drums pads shoes. All new. Rebuilt calipers. Fuel system: All new 2 years ago, tank, lines hoses, sender, filter and electric fuel pump. Avenger 670 carb. Works well in this altitude. Interior: New dash pad, new carpet, new door panels (still needs the speaker covers), the rest is in good working order but un-restored. New roof seals and new door felts but only the drivers door installed. Buyer will get the ones to be installed in passenger door. Tires: New 2 years ago. Body: New hood, new door skin, new tail light panel, new left quarter panel installed. Buyer will get the new one for the right side to be installed. New front and lower valance, new front bumper. Buyer will get replacement right drivers bucket to be installed. I installed new floor pans but just to get by and cut out the rust. I would suggest installing a new one piece floor pan. Only rust left in the car is in the right quarter area and the new quarter that comes with purchase will resolve that. Buyer will also get the right rear outer wheel well to be installed with the quarter panel. Roof is white in color because of the sanded painted primer sealer. New windshield, new headliner, new sail panels, new interior quarter lights. I installed a restored cluster with Tach. New headlight wiring harness, the rest of wiring will need restored. Buyer will get all trim pieces (rocker panel moldings, rear tail light trim, etc.) even though not shown on the pictures. Steering wheel is a rimblow, but out of a cougar and needs restoration. To be safe and not mislead I will say everything else needs restored. This is a solid car that is very fun to drive, some of the major restoration beginnings have been done or come with purchase and you will easily take it to completion. I am selling at this point because I decided to buy a new Shelby GT500, so we are liquidating extra inventory.
