Vehicle Detail

1970 Oldsmobile 442 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Holiday Coupe Click image for larger picture Car Location: South East Mass This is a beautiful 1970 Oldsmobile 442 with 119K miles. It has a 455 V8 engine, Tremmec 5 speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter and posi rear end. The car passes Mass state inspection without issue, and has a new sticker from October 2010. The car drives great down the road and is truly a unique ride. This car also has a chapman lock installed, and the chapman key is on the keychain. Mechanically, the car is excellent, with great brakes (front disc), great sounding dual exhaust, cooling and charging, all working properly. The car does not smoke or burn oil. The car never overheats and always starts. I drive the car regularly in the city and highway, sometimes to work, and other times to take the family out to the community center or for ice cream. Cosmetically, the car looks very nice and was last painted in the mid 90s. The paint has held up well and still presents very nice. The color scheme of blue with white stripes is really eye catching, and the original W-25 hood with steel liner, rear spoiler and cutout rear bumper contribute to the awesomeness of the car. The interior had the front and rear seats recovered recently, as was the carpet. The 442 floor mats have very little use. The sport wheel is very nice. A Pioneer stereo with removable face plate and OLE display with screensavers is installed in a factory style 8 track box. The interior lighting works in terms of the dome light when the doors open, and the dash lights light when the headlights are turned on. The undercarriage looks very clean and glossy and the rear end has the W-27 rear end cover. Underneath, the dual exhaust has new mufflers and it runs quiet, so you dont get a headache driving the car, or have difficulty with talking to others while riding. Also, the car has the factory rear sway bar and aftermarket Hotchkis rear control arms. The trunk and cabin floors were replaced with new floors at some point in the car's history and they look excellent and are solid. The frame is solid. The bumpers have been rechromed. The engine bay has a non-original F block V8 455 that was rebuilt about 5K miles ago that works great. It is fantastic to drive this car shifting through the gears. I believe this car was originally an automatic transmission, and the 5 speed looks practically new from under the car. The engine has been painted and has chrome valve covers. It has a points ignition with coil, big valve C heads and W/Z exhaust manifold. A W30 intake was installed, and the car has an OAI air cleaner. As the car is 40 years old, there are some areas of wear. On the bottom of the front fenders there is some bubbling. The passenger side fender has more than the driver side as the pictures show, and the very bottom edge of the driver side fender is the area of bubbleing near the two bolts that secure it. There is a small bubble on the driver side front fender top side near the front. There is also a small bubble on the bottom front corner of the passenger door, and this corner protrudes a minor amount. The hood had a few of cracks repaired in the past and you can see the lines at the correct angle under the paint, one being on the driver side hood latch to air inlet corner, passenger side by the air inlet corner, and the other being near the front center towards the left side. The rear spoiler driver side pedastal also has signs of a past repair. On the trunklid on the passenger side near the 442 emblem, there is a touch up that was done at some point in the past. There is also a small verticle line on the driver side below the rear window. The interior headliner has a couple of splits in the headliner, and the dash has had a couple of guages and a red LED style bulb added in the original woodgrain area of the dash, and on the driver side vent pulls. The clock on the tic toc tac does not work, and likely needs lubrication. The driver and passenger side footwell side trim pieces have some fading and wear to them. Also, when driving at night with the headlights on, the generator light dimly lights up on the dash, but there is plenty of power, so I think its a bad diode in the alternator, that has not impacted charging, and the car always starts. The engine bay looks great, but could use some detailing and touch up on some of the accessories, such as the master cylinder, and on some areas of the engine itself. One of two of silver plastic trims on the bottom of the tail lights has some cracks. The passenger side tire, while having good tread, has some sidewall wear, so I would recommend changing it. The trunk floor was replaced, and is clean and intact, but some of the spatter paint has worn off. See the thumbnails below, or the slideshow for several pictures, which are categorized description. Please do not bid until you have read all the description, viewed all the pictures. This will allow you to be fully acquainted with the 442. This car also is sold as is, without any warranty, stated or implied. If you are not 100% serious about buying this car, please do not bid! All questions should be asked before the bidding is over. Full payment is expected in seven days from the close of the auction. Vehicle released once check clears, which takes the bank about three days to confirm the funds are not fraudulent on out of state checks. No Nigerian scam artists - I know all your tricks, do not offer to send stupid payments of more than the car is selling for and ask for the change back, or to remit money to fake shipping companies. Don't waste your time. Even though this car is in excellent driving condition, I would suggest that this car be shipped/trailered, as it is 40 years old and anything can happen. Prospective, serious bidders are welcome to see and drive the car in person, and are asked to review the pictures and read all the information in the below thumbnails. The car is for sale locally, and if sold, the auction will be ended. Acceptable payment options are certified check or money order. Body - The paint is very presentable and the color scheme is fantastic! The car was painted in the mid 90s. Exterior features original W25 hood with steel liner, rear spoiler, SS2 rims with bolt on center caps, sport mirrors, and rechomed bumpers. In the below pictures, the trunk lid was not shut securely and was just resting down, so it appears raised, but when secured, the trunk sits flatter. Interior - The interior is in very nice shape, with new carpet, recovered front and rear seat, sport wheel, and factory radio in place (does not power up) and a Pioneer DEH P6500 (with remote) in an 8 track tape player housing. The car also has aftermarket speakers installed on the rear package tray. Engine Bay - The engine bay shows the F block 455 V8 engine, W30 intake, OIA air cleaner, big valve C heads, and W/Z exhaust manifolds. It is very presentable, but could use some detailing and touch up for perfection. The engine was rebuilt about 5K miles ago Trunk Compartment - Trunk compartment is in excellent solid condition. Some of the spatter paint is worn off and can be easily touched up. There is a fire extinguisher present for show and safety. Undercarriage - Solid frame and floors in nice shape. The floors are glossed black from several years ago. The dual exhaust is in good shape with recently installed mufflers that run quiet.. The rear end has the W27 cover. The rear lower control arms from Hochkis.
