Vehicle Detail
1963 Honda CB77 Superhawk Frame #CB77 317343 Engine # CB77 E 317463 I found this great little Honda in Minnesota back in 1994. I dragged it West to Seattle in July of that year with the intentions of treating it to a full restoration. Unfortunately, this is another bike I’ve never given the attention it deserves. Recently I’ve decided that it would be fairer to the machine for me to pass it along to someone else who will restore it and use it as Soichiro Honda intended. Cosmetically, this is a nice, mostly unmolested, well preserved old Superhawk , an excellent candidate for an easy restoration. The tank is un-dented and in good condition on the inside. The tank side panels are un-dented and the chrome is in nice shape with only light scratching (no rust.) Both rubber knee pads are in good condition. The left side original plastic tank badge is there but the right side is missing. The body side covers are un-dented with only a patch of surface rust on the right side. The mounting knob is missing on the left side but I have it and it will go back on the bike. The rear fender has a small bend on it’s left side but should straighten fairly easily. The front fender has a kink just behind the front forks and the rear front fender stays have been bent. This also should straighten fairly easily. The front forks are straight and the headlight ears and bucket are un-dented. The headlight trim ring is un-dented with slight pitting that might clean off. The gauge is faded. The headlight switch is good. The chrome trim on the front forks are very good. For some reason the chain guard mounts have been cut off of the swing arm and will need to be re-fabricated but I do have the chain guard which is will go with the bike. The seat is original with a couple of small splits in the vinyl. The chrome seat trim is good on the left and rear while the right side has a little scratching. The foam seems to be fine. The exhaust is one of the nicest originals I have seem. The chrome is very good with only very light scratching. There are two very small dents in the muffler on the right side. The chrome on the rims has some very light pitting but not too bad. I have not tried to clean them. Somewhere along the way the bike picked up “Scrambler” handlebar but they are easily replaced. The cast aluminum rear foot peg/muffler mounts on the left side is broken but I found a good replacement that will go with the bike. The bike has it’s original center stand but it appears that it never was fitted with the optional side stand. Frame and engine numbers on vintage Hondas do not match (as they do on many vintage British machines) though the frame/engine number should be within a few hundred. On this bike the difference of 120 would indicate that this is the engine that the bike left the factory with. Mechanically, I would expect no problems getting this one running. According to it’s previous owner, it ran when he parked it back in the mid 80’s. I turned over it over once in a while over the years but recently the kick starter failed and now something is not engaging inside. The rear brake has locked up with time and I haven’t had a chance to fix the problem. To get the bike to roll, I removed the chain, brake stay and brake cable and loosened the axle bolt so that the whole brake housing can rotate with the wheel. I will look but I don’t believe that I have the chain. This bike lost it’s title decades ago and will come with a bill of sale from the previous owner to me and a bill of sale from me to the new owner. If you would to inspect this bike in person I will be very happy to help arrange a visit. The bike resides in Normandy Park, WA, a ten minute drive from the Seattle/Tacoma airport. Also, I am very happy to do all that I can on this end to help in stateside or overseas shipment. I can deliver the bike to a local shipping company to save you the cost of having it picked up at my residence. If you have any questions at all please feel free to call or e-mail. My cell number is (206)276-9791 and I can be reached up until about 10:00PM (Pacific time zone.). Attached are all of the photos I have of the bike but I will be happy to photograph any details that you would like to see. Just let me know. Please be prepared to make a $300 deposit through Pay-Pal, Cashiers Check or Money Order within 2 days of the end of the auction and pay the balance within 10 days of the end of the auction. I would like to see the bike picked up soon after the sale goes through but might be able to store it for a short time if need be.
