Vehicle Detail

1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 convertible. This car is a very rare, one of a kind, vintage hot rod. The car has been in my family since new. The car was recently restored by the original owner. It's drivetrain restored to vintage hot rod specifications (he raced the car in the late 50's, early 60s). $35K in work, above the value of the car! The restoration began in the mid 1970s, an d was finished around 2004.....yes....a very very slow restoration. Since the restoration was completed, I would estimate that the car has less than 1000 miles. It was driven very very little due to health reasons. Running Gear: Car was originally sold as a 324 cu. in, automatic trans. vehicle. A 1959 Oldmobile 394 cu.in motor (rebuilt in the 1970s by Pappy Hough, of Gasoline Alley fame in Patterson NJ. Offenhauser dual quad manifold with holley carbs. The valve covers are Offenhauser. A new Petronix electronic ignition to replace the GM dual point distributor. Headers are custom made, 2" primary, into 4" collectors, made by "Motion Perfomance" back when they were on Long Island by Baldwin Motors. Exhaust pipes and mufflers are new custom pipes with MagnaFlow 40 series mufflers. Trans is a T-10 4 speed manual. Hurst 4 speed shifter. Hydraulic Clutch. Rear is a 1957 Olds 9.3" with new bearings/seals and new Fabcraft 3.42 gears. Brakes are OEM manual drum with OEM steel wheels wearing like-new wide whites and 56 Fiesta spinner hubcaps. All suspension parts rebuilt recently, everything is solid and tight. "Old School" Traction bars are located from spring/rear mounts to front shackles. Electric fuel pump with new filter located near the tank. Body: was creme, converted to all black in the early 1960s. Recently repainted gloss black. Mirror (professionally buffed) shiny and a dead straight body. Body/trunk/ jambs/underhood are excellent, Top is new. Hydraulic top works properly, with all rebuilt components. All stainless was removed buffed and polished and most chrome replated. Seats recovered red/white. new door panels too. triple gauges are underdash (oil press., temp, volts) and a Sun tach is on the steering column. The body is stock except for the "oldsmobile" lettering removed from the hood. The clutch and brake pedals are stock 1953 manual pedals with new rubber pads. The gas pedal is a Lokar. The steering wheel horn ring/center is from 1955. I have a very nice 1954 horn ring/center and horn contact that will go with the car. In addition to the spare parts, I also have 5 new red seatbelts, new shifter boot and six new window cranks. I put down 1K as mileage, title says 101K. The speedo is set to 0. I cannot verify true miles. Original factory colors were: Cream with red/white interior (as per the data plate). The first color change to black was in the late 1950's. Second paint at restoration ~ 2000. The color change was complete...there are no area's of cream to be found. Door jambs, trunk, underhood....all painted properly. However, the firewall and inner fenders were not repainted in the last repaint. The most recent work: Rebuiding both carbs, adding new sparkplug wires and the Petronix ignition upgrade. All fluids changed, chassis lubed and inspected (all in excellent condition!), flush gas tank and lines, new fuel and oil filters (remote oil filter) and new alternator installed. The new ring gear and seals were also installed; 3.42 from Fabcraft replaced the 5.38s. There are a few things that need to be done to this car to make it 100%. 1) drivers window is cracked (I have a new one in the box), 2) install the carpet (I have a new one with padding in the box), 3) Detail the engine bay - just time is needed to do this to bring it up to the level of the rest of the car. 4) install new vacuum wiper switch (I have a replacement on hand).. Speedo is set to 0, and is connected to the trans, cable is good, but will not work. Rear bumper has some small pitting from improper storage. Its looks good, but is not perfect. The brakes a slightly spongy, but the car stops true and straight. If you are going to drive alot of miles, I suggest upgrading to modern disk brakes. Spare/box parts included: rechromed clock surround, trunk spare tiedown bolt, extra plate light, restored 1954 Jack assembly, 1954 OEM hubcaps, 394 3x2 offy intake manifold....plus multiple odds/ends from resto. This car is a piece of history. Inspections are encouraged. Car will not be released to a new owner or shipper until paid in full. Do not send cash. No paypal other than the deposit. No warranty. I will accept a $500 deposit at the end of the auction through paypal. Balance before shipping or pick up. The car is for sale locally, so I reserve to end the auction if necessary.
