Vehicle Detail
This 1981 London Taxi is the last year these were made by Ausin before being sold to Carbodies. You can't tell it from the older versions but it has many helpful modern upgrades. If you have ever riden in one of these you know how cavernous the interior is with the suicide doors and limosine type seating. This is an original london cab in operation until 2004 (fares still posted on the door). In the rear with the jump seats you can leagally carry 5 people and with the jump seat in the parcel compartment up front you can have 7 people ride in this amazing car. It is powered by the prefered stock Nissan TD2.7 diesel engine equiped with synthetic hoses compatible with biodiesel. The automatic transmission shifts like it should and makes the right hand drive easy to operate. It is mechanically and electrically sound and I would drive this taxi anywhere as long as I have time. Top speed is 60 mph but really likes to run at 50-55 mph. It has a sunroof, upgraded Pioneer sound sustem with ipod connection and remote. The heaters work well and can be adjusted from the fron or rear. The wheel chair ramps are light and very easy to use. The chair belts are installed and can be used in the chair or by the jump seat occupant. Very nice set-up. The Taxi light works and comes with a new "for hire" lens as well. This Cab is so original it has new 16" tires imported from England made especially for these taxi's. The Cab is mostly rust free but there is some rust on the driver side front fender and step as well as the rear seam of the trunk. I included pictures of the rust. There is a few dime sized bubles starting to show under the paint in 3-4 places and the vinal top needs replaced. Parts for these are readily availalbe, reasonable and ship quickly. I will include the new step, rear carpet package, for hire light, service manual and Bill Munro's book "A century of London Taxis" with the cab. Title is clear, in my posession and licensed in Washington State. This is a truly unique, economical and dependable vehicle. Use it for special needs, hauling the kids around, or add it to your limo fleet. My grandkids love this and always ask me to go for a ride when they visit. They get to be in the back and pretend they are the passengers and I am their driver. I open the partition window and they just think that is so cool.
