Thank You for Your Interest!!! 1971 VW Westfalia Hardtop Weekender Bus Excellent Condition!!! We are proud to offer for purchase this rare 1971 VW Westfalia Hardtop Bus. Complete and ready to be enjoyed, this Westfalia has been brought to near new condition. The rarity of the hardtop as well as their superior practicality makes this Westy a wonderful addition to any collection. 1971 was the last year VW used the preferred upright engine and the first year it put disc brakes on the front—making it the most sought after of the bay window buses. One might expect to see a bus in this condition for sale out west somewhere but alas, this Westy is available east of the Mississippi! This bus is very sound structurally and is mechanically roadworthy with a long list of repairs performed during a major overhaul completed this summer. The professionals at Asheville Vee Dub, the area’s top shop, handled all of the mechanical aspects of this restoration. They installed a new starter, battery, ignition switch, locking cylinder with new keys and the wiring. Next, the CV axles, front & rear shock absorber, steering coupler, draglink and the right and left tie rods were replaced. The rear wheel bearings and seals and generator pulley were also replaced and the front end was lubed. Next, the tranny final drive seals, flange, gaskets and fluids were replaced. A new shift kit, including stop plate, shift rod, knob and boot was installed. The clutch is in excellent condition and the bus shifts perfectly though all the gear. Additionally, the engine was thoroughly tuned. The tune up included a new set of points, condenser, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and plug wires. The valves were adjusted and the timing set. The oil, oil filter and oil drain plate screen were changed. The carburetor was adjusted, a new fuel filter was installed and the gas tank was drained and refilled. A new “bugpack” muffler, 12 volt horn, emergency brake linkage, accelerator cable and pedal kit finished off the job. The brakes are in perfect working order. The previous owner had replaced them, including all new brake lines. The vehicle brakes consistently, without pulling to one side or the other. I’ve have since had the bus out on the highway several times and it runs great, easily getting to 65 MHP, with a little still left in the peddle. The bus is rust free and all pans are solid. All electrical aspects of the bus are in working order. The speed odometer, mileage odometer and gas gauge work. The lights are new and ready to go. Headlights, headlight rings and accent “eyelids” are new. Tail lights, brake lights, side lights, side marker and reverse lights have all been replaced. All hardware including the buckets and lenses are new throughout. The blinkers, front blinker lenses and emergency flasher have been replaced and are in working order. Even the tag light housing and bulb are new and work perfectly. The horn and wipers work as they should. Even the dome light works. That old mustard yellow interior was replaced by James’s Auto Upholstery of Fletcher, NC. I went with a more modern beige. All pieces, the front seats, jump seat, fold down “Z” bed and rear cushion have been redone. This Westy is one of the last years for the thick cushioned rear bed. The bed is a full and thick as opposed to the miserably thin cushioning present in later bus and vanagon models. All interior panels were replaced, including the beautiful new door panels from Wolfsburg West. All new hardware was added to the door panels. New kick panels, front floor mat, and sun visors were added. Many new parts have been added to the exterior as well, giving this Westy a nearly new appearance. The original VW emblem has been replaced by an OEM quality new emblem, not a cheap plastic knock off. The “Volkswagen” script on the rear hatch is new as well. New chrome passenger and driver side mirrors were installed as well. Also a new driver and passenger side door handle with keys replaces the original. . A new step of hub caps accent the wheels. A brand new set of 4 Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires were installed. The bus has the very desirable Chianti Red and Pastel White color combo—original to this bus. All windows are in working order, even the jalousie windows in the rear. I put brand new screening on those windows for mosquito free camping. Speaking of windows, the Glass Doctor of Asheville installed a new windshield and weatherstrip. They removed both side bay windows and rear hatch window and installed new rubber weatherstrip on those pieces as well. The rubber looks fantastic. A new Westfalia decal dresses up the rear window. To summarize, this Westy is completely ready for your enjoyment. I would describe it as the very highest quality “driver” vehicle. It is not a show vehicle. It is meant to be taken out and enjoyed! The bus is rust free and solid. It turns heads everywhere I go. Please keep in mind that it is a 40 year old vehicle and will need to be maintained. And it is an old VW, so don’t freak out if it drips a little on the driveway. Clean and smoke free...Drive anywhere, stay everywhere, an awesome daily driver with everyday practicality and one day... possibilities. Where do you want to go next? The Outer Banks, Yellowstone...Yosemite, maybe all three? The road and the imagination are yours...this Westy will take you there and keep you in style. These classics exude cool and Volkswagen may be the world’s most iconic auto name plate. It is sure to be an investment that will grow in value; all the while you’ll be enjoying the ride! Please contact with any specific questions or ideas. Feel free to make an appointment with us to view and drive this Westfalia. Pictures of previous VW restorations are available by request. We have restored several VW’s. Buyer is responsible for transport/pickup and vehicle is sold as is, no warrantee. Odometer reading not actual, true mileage unknown. By the way, the title is of course clear and in my name. The extensive file of receipts is included with purchase. Thanks again for Your Interest!!! We are starting this auction at $1000!!! Good Luck Everyone!!!
