Up for sale is my Low Reserve 1981 4 door VW 5 speed diesel Rabbit, it has been my restoration project over the past three years. With this car I commute daily to work - 55 highway miles round trip. I consistently get 44-48 mpg on my commute. I will be driving it up to the day its sold. New Items/work done on the project: Paint job, battery, glow plugs & relay, fuel filter, radiator hoses, brake hoses, thermostat, timing belt, new tires including spare, windshield gasket, grille, head light rings, front duckbill spoiler, headliner, interior carpet, Monroe front struts and rear shocks, new CV boots, two injectors, resealed injector pump, valve adjustment, oil baffle on the valves to prevent blow-by, new coolant reserve tank, new fan switch/sensor, new tail lights, shifter bushing kit, diaphram kit installed on vacuum pump and more. The engine compression tested good so I did not re-build the motor. (1-450psi, 2-420psi, 3-420psi, 4-450psi) I did however do a valve adjustment. It is equipped with AC and I converted it to r-134a but one of the return hoses has a leak; the compressor still engages on a manual switch. The good: Looks, starts, runs and drives well. A radio, amp and speakers were installed, the interior is in good condition (no dash crack) and the plastic wood was painted to look a little more modern, carpet replaced and cloth in good shape. All exterior trim is in excellent shape. Sun visors and door panels are in good shape, jack, lug wrench and new spare are included. The bad: AC hose is needed to complete the system. The heater/defrost adjuster is swapped manually, the dash adjuster will not switch it. Some small dimples on the hood that I didn’t see during the re-paint and a couple on the sides, they don't show well in pictures. Windshield washer pump not working but the tank is included. The window regulators have not been serviced. They work, but not as smoothly as new ones. I have done my best to describe my 29 year old car. Please email any questions that you may have.
