THIS OFFERING IS FOR MY 1986 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR CAR FOR ABOUT 2 1/2 YEARS AND IN THAT TIME , I HAVE REBUILT IT FROM THE GROUND UP TO THIS POINT, REPLACING THE ORIGINAL FRAME TO AS FAR AS REBUILDING THE ORIGINAL V.I.N 9 H.O. 307 ENGINE. THIS CAR IS A TRUE 442 AND THE SEQUENCE NUMBER LOCATED ON THE ENGINE BLOCK MATCHES THE VIN #. IT WAS ORIGINALLY A BLACK AND SILVER 442 WITH GOLD ACCENT STRIPES AND A BURGUNDY INTERIOR. I DO NOT KNOW THE WHOLE STORY ON THIS CAR, BUT I'M GUESSING THAT SOMETIME DURING ITS LIFE, IT MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER AND DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE FRONT END SHEET METAL. ACCORDING TO THE CAR FAX I BOUGHT FOR IT, THIS ACCIDENT WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY, AND I BELIEVE THE CAR WAS JUST SIMPLY LEFT FOR DEAD. DURING THAT "IN DAMAGED" PERIOD, I BELIEVE THE PREVIOUS OWNER OR OWNERS STRIPPED THIS CAR OF ITS VALUABLE 442 PARTS, REPAIRED THE DAMAGE AND JUST MADE IT DRIVEABLE ENOUGH TO SELL. ITEMS SUCH AS THE BUCKET SEATS, CONSOLE, 200R4 4 SPD. TRANS AND THE POSI REAR AXLE ALL WERE EXCHANGED FOR STANDARD PARTS. THEY EVEN SWIPED THE 442 EMBLEMS OFF BOTH THE UPPER DOOR PANELS. ANYWAY, I WAS IN THE MARKET FOR A CUTLASS BECAUSE MY CURRENT 1982 SUPREME WAS FALLING APART. I CAME ACROSS THIS CAR AND THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. I FIGURED THAT SINCE IT HAD NO COLLECTOR VALUE LEFT IN IT, THIS WOULD BE THE PERFECT CANDIDATE TO BUILD AS A DAILY DRIVER. THE BODY, AS YOU SEE IT IN THESE PHOTOS, IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I DID NO EXTERIOR BODY WORK TO IT AND I DID NOT HAVE IT REPAINTED. ALTHOUGH IT IS PRETTY STRAIGHT AND HAS VERY GOOD EYE APPEAL. IT DOES HAVE SOME ISSUES TO THE LOWER REAR QUARTER AND ROCKER PANELS THAT WERE KINDA REPAIRED "GOOD ENOUGH" BY THE PREVIOUS OWNERS BEFORE THEY PAINTED THE WHOLE CAR SILVER. THE CHANGES THAT I MADE TO THE EXTERIOR INCLUDE: BUFFING AND SHINING UP OF THE PAINT, BLACKING OUT THE BOTTOM PORTION AND ADDING ALL THE RED PIN-STRIPES. I ALSO ADDED A WING ONTO THE TRUNK LID AND TOUCHED UP THE SILVER AROUND THE WHOLE CAR. THE SILVER PAINT ISN'T PERFECT, BUT IT LOOKS GOOD ENOUGH FOR NOW. I ALSO DETAILED EACH OF THE WHEELS AND ADDED A RED STRIPE. I'LL TELL YA, A LITTLE RED ACCENT STRIPE SURE GOES A LONG WAY. WHAT A FINISHING TOUCH!!!! . AND FINALLY, A SET OF 235 / 60 - 15 B.F. GOODRICH T/A RADIALS REALLY GOT THE WHEELS LOOKING SHARP. SINCE COMPLETION, THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE RAIN OR LEFT OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT. ALWAYS GARAGED AT THIS POINT, I MUST SAY, I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED THE 1984 HURST OLDS. I WILL ALSO STRESS THAT "THIS IS NOT A POINTS WINNING SHOW CAR" . IT HAS BEEN TASTEFULLY REBUILT BY ME, AND IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS GREAT ON THE STREET. ITS A REAL HEAD TURNER EVERYWHERE IT GOES AND IS RESPECTFULLY ADMIRED BY THE FOLKS OF THE LOCAL CRUISES THAT I ATTEND, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS NOT A HURST/OLDS....THERES NO LIGHTNING ROD SHIFTERS IN THIS ONE. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT I AM INTO TURNING WRENCHES AND NOT INTO AUTO REFINISHING. SO I GUESS YOU COULD SAY THAT THIS WAS A "FRAME OFF REBUILD" AND NOT A TOTAL RESTORATION. CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT. MOVING ON, THE ENTIRE FRAME / CHASSIS WAS REPLACED WITH ONE FROM A SALVAGED BUICK GRAND NATIONAL THAT WAS BOUGHT AND DELIVERED TO OHIO FROM TEXAS. I USED ALL OF THE SUSPENSION PARTS FROM THIS CHASSIS PRIMARILY BECAUSE EVERYTHING WAS COMPLETLEY " RUST FREE" . NEW PST FRONT END REBUILD KIT, POLY GRAPHITE CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS AND BODY MOUNTS WERE ALL INSTALLED. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BODY WAS CLEANED, SEAM SEALED AND BRUSH COATED WITH ZINC CHROMATE PRIMER. THEN IT ALL WAS SPRAYED WITH RUBBERIZED UNDERCOATING AND THEN TOP COATED WITH SATIN BLACK. THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL WELLS WERE PAINTED BY HAND USING UP A QUART OF RED RUSTOLEUM PAINT. AFTER THE ROLLING CHASSIS WAS ASSEMBLED AND ALL BRAKE / FUEL LINE HARWARE AND FULLY WELDED EXHAUST SYSTEM WERE INSTALLED, I DROPPED THE BODY BACK DOWN AND STARTED REASSEMBLING THE REST OF THE CAR. IN THE MEAN TIME, THE ENGINE WENT ON A TRIP TO THE MACHINE SHOP WHERE IT WAS BORED .030 OVER AND NEW CAM BEARINGS WERE INSTALLED. I ALSO HAD THE CRANKSHAFT AND CONNECTING RODS RECONDITIONED WHICH MADE EVERYTHING READY FOR ALL NEW "TRW" BEARINGS, "SEALED POWER" RINGS AND NEW "MUSKEGON" .030 OVER PISTONS. A BRAND NEW STOCK GRIND CAMSHAFT WITH O.E.M. REPLACEMENT ROLLER LIFTERS AND STOCK REPLACEMENT STEEL ROCKER ARMS FROM "WOLVERINE". A "PERFECT CIRCLE" TIMING CHAIN AND "MELLING" HIGH PRESSURE/ VOLUME OIL PUMP WAS ALSO ADDED. WHEN THIS ENGINE FIRED FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE OIL PRESSURE NEEDLE ON THE DASH PEGGED PAST 80 PSI. AND GOT STUCK. NOW THATS OIL PRESSURE !!! "FELPRO" GASKETS WERE USED THROUGHOUT. I DID NOT HAVE A CORRECT 200R4 TRANSMISSION AVAILABLE TO ME AT THE TIME, SO I USED A TRICKED OUT TCI TURBO 350 TRANS THAT I HAD FOR MY 77 TRANS AM PROJECT. THE REAR AXLE IS A STOCK, DRUM BRAKE, NON-POSI WITH 2:14 HIGHWAY GEARS. I CHOSE THIS GEAR RATIO DUE TO THE LACK OF AN OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION, WITH THE NEW INCREASE IN HORSEPOWER, SHE'S PRETTY GOOD OFF THE LINE, ACCELERATES GREAT AND SHIFTS NICELY THROUGH THE GEARS. AND THE HARDER YOU STAND ON IT, THE TRANSMISSION WILL HOLD EACH GEAR LONGER, WHILE LETTING THE ENGINE RPM COME UP. THIS PRODUCES HARDER SHIFTS AND THE TIRE WILL CHIRP. IT IS GREAT ON THE FREEWAY, AND BEST OF ALL, IT GETS PRETTY GOOD GAS MILEAGE. ALL OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY WIRING AND COMPUTER IS STILL ON BOARD AND UNMOLESTED. I HAVE A 200R4 CROSSMEMBER THAT ALSO GOES WITH THE CAR. UNDER THE HOOD IS ALL STOCK GM AND AND EVERYTHING IS HOOKED UP,,,EVEN THE AIRPUMP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES ONLY ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE RPM OF THE ENGINE IS NOT MATCHED TO THE COMPUTER AND TRANSMISSION. I'M NOT 100% SURE, BUT I THINK THE COMPUTER IS WAITING TOO LONG FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER TO LOCK-UP IN OVERDRIVE, WHICH MAKES THE LIGHT COME ON. THE SPEEDOMETER CALIBRATION IS ALSO OFF DUE TO THE TURBO 350 TRANS. THE INTERIOR IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH NO RIPS OR TEARS IN THE SEATS. THE CARPET IS EXCELLENT AND THE HEADLINER IS UP THERE PRETTY GOOD. THE A/C IS ALL THERE, BUT NOT CHARGED OR WORKING. THE HEATER WORKS GOOD. THE CAR HAS POWER WINDOWS AND LOCKS. THE TOP PORTIONS OF THE OF THE DOOR PANELS HAVE SOME CIGARETTE BURNS BUT ARE NOT TORN AT ALL. THE LEATHER ON THE STEERING WHEEL IS A LITTLE TWISTED ON THE TOP DUE TO AGE. I LEFT THE ORIGINAL DELCO RADIO / TAPE PLAYER IN THE DASH, BUT ADDED NEW SPEAKERS IN THE REAR AND A 230 WATT BRIDGED AMPLIFIER AND BASS SPEAKER IN THE TRUNK. ALL THE GLASS IS GOOD WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD. IT IS NOT CRACKED THOUGH. THIS CAR IS WHAT IT IS AND I COULD GO ON AND ON ALL DAY ABOUT IT. THIS IS HOW I LOOK AT IT, I GOT IT TO THIS LEVEL AND I HOPE SOMEONE ELSE WILL ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I STILL DO, AND MAYBE EVEN BRING IT BACK TO ITS FORMER 442 GLORY....SHE DESERVES IT!!!! I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN "LAID OFF" FROM MY JOB AND I NEED MONEY NOW TO HELP GET ME THROUGH THESE ECONOMIC TIMES. I HAVE A CLEAR OHIO TITLE IN MY HAND. MY RESERVE PRICE IS SET VERY FAIR FOR WHAT I HAVE DONE TO THIS CAR. A $200.00 NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT IS DUE AT THE END OF THE AUCTION VIA PAY-PAL.
