Vehicle Detail
1984 PORSCHE 928 S 5 Speed manual Please take a moment and let me tell you about this remarkable and unique automobile, I guarantee it will be worth your time. This car was bought new from a Porsche dealer with 11 miles on it in May of 1984. The buyer was a dentist and a car collector in that he owned 4 cars. He used the car very little and the last few years of his life he more or less had it in storage, running it only a few miles monthly. When he died in 2003 he left the car to his Niece who had admired the car and took it to her Uncle's Porsche service company, Blue Ridge Motorworks, foreign car specialists. They went through the car with a fine tooth comb, it had 52434 miles on it and I have a 3 page invoice of the work done. Everything from new brakes all around to new Kumho tires, 4 wheel alignment and on and on. The bill was $5819.42. She married and moved to Miami, they had 2 cars too many and sold them on ebay where I spotted the Porsche and bought it on the spot. This was on 2/27/08. I was the 3rd owner. I had it transported to my home in Largo, I loved the car and brought it to my Porsche guy, German Tech in Largo, Joe Vetter has the reputation of the best Porsche man in Florida and he had cared for my 911 perfectly. Also, my neighbor has a 1987 928 S and has implicet trust in German Tech over almost 20 years of servicing his 3 Porsches. I had German Tech tweak the car, updating the A/C so it uses the latest freon, installing a new clutch which requires a new timing belt and water pump because of the oil spillage which occurs during the work. My bills total a shade under $6000.00 so mechanically the car is about perfect. The mileage is now 55215. I have Hagerty collector car insurance for a value of $15000 which costs less than $200 yearly. I use the car about once monthly. I'm selling it because I recently turned 75 and I need the garage space. The car is all original, no rust, always garaged, well maintained and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere! What does it need? The dash cover is wrinkled and the new owner may wish to replace it, a new one costs about $150. The rub strip on the passenger door is chipped in spots, my body guy suggested a new one. Well Porsche had none so I ordered one from a Porsche firm listed in Hemmings magazine, I have it and it will go with the car. The stitching on the drivers seat is missing on one seam but the leather seems fine. Thats about it, all documented, original owners manuals are here and a CoverCraft cover goes with the car as well. Any questions? Call me at 727 581 2895 or e-mail me at barry.warford@knology.net Addendum: I have received a phone call asking for more details on the $5819.42 invoice incurred by the Niece after having the car worked on after its being in storage by her late Uncle. Disc brakes plus sensors and pads front and rear. Major tune up, replacing timing belt and tension rollers. Camshaft belt, all filters, air, fuel, oil plus ALL belts replaced, Transaxle serviced and oil replaced. Fuel gauge sending unit replaced, all wipers replaced, hood and hatch struts replaced, dash covers replaced and new carpeting installed front and rear. There's more but I'm out of breath. Next question, how did I spend another $6000.00? I gave it to German Tech and told Joe to go through it and do what is necessary. First bill was for $3937.99 for a new clutch which explained the slow shift from first to second gear and the work required another new cam with seals plus timing belt and water pump as oil gets on them during the job and they need to be replaced. Second bill was for $1226.75 for a new A/C compressor to allow the new freon to be used plus labor to evacuate the old system and install new belts, ect. The other bills were for a new motor for the passenger window, oil change (Mobile One 10-50) and other extraneous items such as a new Sony Radio with a CD player.. Why have I driven it lesss than a thousand miles? Collector car insurance requires many things, among them, the car willl be garaged, it willl only be driven by the owner, it will NOT be driven to do ordinary errands only to parades, car shows, dealership, etc. The owner must also have another car to use for errands and so forth. It's a wonderful car to drive, the ownership manual says 158 MPH in 5th gear and I believe it! It has the sunroof and is not only great fun but a conversation piece as the model is so rare. In my opinion the car is mechanically as close to new as possible. Contact me if you have any other questions. TERMS: 25% deposit within 3 days, balance due within 10 days, certified funds. All sales final. The title is clear and in my possession. No warranty as I'm not a dealer just an honest guy wanting to sell a nice car. I don't do shipping but I'm told that covered transport can be arranged online quite easily and seems reasonably priced at between 70 and 90 cents per mile, open transport half as much.. Thanks for looking, Barry...........
