Vehicle Detail
VIN Number for this car is: WDB12602210004387 A very unique and slightly custom 1981 Mercedes Benz 280SE, 126 body style. 101,700 original miles. This is a rare European model (grey market car VIN numbers cannot be added to Ebay's item specifics, so it is shown above per Ebay request). It is equipped with a high performance 2.8 twin cam, fuel injected, 6 cylinder gasoline engine, and a 4 speed manual transmission. This power combination would not have been available in this body style in the U.S. The car is lighter and more nimble than U.S. versions. Really fun to drive. May be good for Rallye. It has the correct DMV DOT import badge with VIN on the door jam. I have a clear Wisconsin title. Previous owner was a popular baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers, I still have some documents in his name. I have owned it for about 2 years. It has working air conditioning (and a good heater), a power moonroof, and manual windows. Also has power steering and power brakes. The car runs and drives excellent, the engine is smooth and strong, and has a sweet sound. Good oil pressure, does not overheat. I have idled it for more than an hour with the ac on in 90 degree weather (sitting in the car on the phone). Temp stayed in the center, and electric fan cycles properly. Has factory dual exhaust in very nice shape, possibly was replaced. The floor shift 4 speed transmission shifts properly, no abnormal noises, no bad synchros, nice strong clutch, no differential or wheel bearing noises. Brakes stop straight and smooth. Parking brake cable is broken. There are no major fluid leaks. The a/c blows cold and the climate control works. The car handles really well, no pulling, no loose ball joints etc. I recently tuned it up. It has new spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel & air filters, an oil service, new battery, and good coolant. This car has not seen many winters here. There are some areas underneath that do have some surface rust, typical of a ten year old Wisconsin car, not a 1981. The worst area is the left rear rubber jack point rusted off (underneath the rocker panel, in front of the rear tire, kind of a small box section). To me, not bad at all, but I want in known. This is probably from sitting on the grass. No rust in any door jam or doors, no rust under hood, there is some paint blistering bubbles above the left rear bumper surround, otherwise the outer body is rust free. No holes in the trunk, floors, or frame (except for mentioned jack point). No body or frame damage from accidents. There are a few spots under the floorboards that are pushed up a bit, looks like the car bottomed out a little bit, maybe over a curb, probably because of the low profile tires. Not real bad, could be pushed back down if wanted. The body is straight, had an expensive paint job at on time, but now the clear coat is peeling on the top, there are a few cracks in the paint above the left tail light and on the roof in the body groove, and the bumper covers are cracking. Still looks nice from a short distance. The hood and grille appear to be from a 2 door hardtop SEC model. The car does not leak inside or in the trunk, even in our heavy rains. The interior is really nice genuine leather, and it still smells like new leather. The seats and interior are a light grey and dark charcoal, not white like the pictures show. It looks like factory Mercedes, but I believe they are custom. I have a receipt from 1993 for over $15,000 that was spent on paint, ground effects, wheels, and interior on this car. The German carpeting and headliner are also really nice. The electric moonroof works. The dash is nice, but has some small cracks near the top center. All controls, switches, windows, locks etc. are working. All gauges work, even the clock. The console area from the shifter to the radio needs some attention, the ash tray was replaced with some plastic filler piece to make way for an equalizer. The old school Sony sound system was working, but I had to disconnect all the power to it to keep the battery from going dead over night. I could remove everything and install a newer head unit if new owner would like. The tires are 225/50/16 on nice custom chrome rims. 2 front tires have lots of tread. Rears are weather cracked, but ride is smooth. Except for these tires, this Benz should have no problem on a road trip. I drive it several times a week locally. Always starts and drives good. A/C is cold. I have described this car to the best of my knowledge. This Mercedes is being sold As-Is. No Warranty. Please email me if you have questions, I will try to answer asap. This is a nice old custom Benz that could use some tlc, it is by no means perfect. It is 30 years old. Probably was in storage for some of them. It will have flaws typical of an old car, and I am sure I have missed some, but they will be mostly cosmetic. I would consider it vintage. A diamond in the rough. With a history. It might even be collectible, who knows? Cruise it around as is, fix it a little, or do a restore. Buy this cool Mercedes Benz Cheap! I am hoping someone out there will appreciate this car. I reserve the right to end this listing if sold locally. Winner must post a $250 deposit at end of auction thru PayPal first. Balance by check (must clear) or cash on delivery.
