Vehicle Detail
1972 Jaguar XKE V12 Offered for bidding is this driver quality Jaguar XKE Roadster. Privately owned by the same owner for 22 years, this car has spent most of that time being driven only occasionally. The owner estimates that he has put on approximately 10,000 miles since 1988. In between being driven, the car has been kept in secured storage and professionally maintained. BODY Overall in good condition, the body does have some rust behind the driver's side front wheel. This is pictured below. There are some other minor spots, shown below, but they are negligible. The paint has held up nicely, the only remarkable thing being a few small drops of tree sap that should be easy to remove. The trim is passable, with some scratches in the stainless and some very light pitting in the chrome. The same can be said for the wire wheels, although I believe with some good cleaning they would come back nicely. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The car starts easily with the expected sputtering that comes with a car that has been sitting for a bit. I attribute this to the carburettors being in need of cleaning. Once warmed up, however, the car runs very smoothly and shifts very well. The owner reports that there has been very little in the way of repairs on the car during his ownership, with no major repairs being necessary in that time, most likely due to the low amount of miles he has put on. The car has been run at regular intervals to prevent the seals from drying up; however there is some evidence of oil leaking at the pan and the valve covers. INTERIOR The seats are in very good condition, with no tears that I could see upon inspection. The leather is still very soft and comfortable. Same can be said for the door panels, they're both in very good shape. The carpet will need to be replaced. TOP I was pleased with the condition of the top; with some light cleaning I believe it will appear close to new. No tears visible, and very little to no fading. The top raises and lowers easily, and has a boot in nice condition. Overall, I would classify this as an ideal driver for someone who would like to immediately enjoy the car. With a good detailing and very little work (carpet replacement, rust repair, oil pan and valve cover gaskets), this car will hold up for a very long time as a solid driver. It is also an excellent candidate for a full restoration, as it is a very solid car with good mechanicals. I am listing the car for a friend of mine, so I will answer as many questions as possible as soon as I can. If there is anything I don't know I can find out for you quickly. This car is privately owned and currently located in Wilmette, IL.
