Vehicle Detail
1937 Chrysler Airflow C-17! Last year for the Art-Deco Airflow! This 100% original Arizona barn find has been stored in a warehouse since 1964! Less than 25,000 original miles according to the previous owners who have owned it since at least the early '60's. You just don't find them like this anymore. I bought this car to slowly restore, but now must sell to raise money for a home purchase. I acquired it from the family that has owned the car since at least the early '60's. It was last registered in Arizona in 1964 and still has it's 1964 AZ plate hanging on the back. The previous owner took this car with him when he moved from Arizona to Ohio in 1964 and locked it away in his warehouse where it sat until just a month ago when it was brought back to Phoenix, Arizona by his grandson. I was told that this car is completely original. I suspect that it might have been repainted once a very long time ago but can't say for sure. The body is fantastic! There is no rust in any body panel, period! All doors, the hood, and the trunk open and close perfectly. I believe all the glass is good except for the flat driver's door glass. All the windows roll up and down great and all vent windows work. The windshield opens and closes on both sides. The wings on the hood ornament have broken off but are present and could probably be repaired. The pass. front fender has light damage. The headlight lens did break and will need to be replaced. All trim and chrome is present. This is as nice and dry original 73 year old sheetmetal that you can find! To be a show car it would need a complete restoration, but it is truly rare to find a 1937 that has never been restored that is this nice. The drivetrain is completely original down to the air cleaner. I could not get the straight eight to turn over by hand, but I did not go farther than that. From underneath this car appears to be 100 percent stock and original. I do not know the condition of the engine, transmission, brakes, etc, but since this car has been sitting for 46 years I would imagine that everything on the drivetrain should be gone through. It does roll and steer just fine. The interior is in need of total restoration. The lower front seat cushion is missing. The steering wheels is nice, as is the horn ring. The instruments on these cars are absolutely beautiful. The temp. gauge has been removed but is present and appears to be in as nice condition as the other gauges. At some point someone started replacing the wood floors and got 95% of the way done. The new floors are installed but not bolted down. The headliner, seat covers, etc are all dried out or coming apart. All the window rubber is VERY dry. Overall the interior needs everything but is a great base to start working with. This car is a super rare find. 24,684 original miles! It has been with the same owner since at least the early sixties and has been stored indoors since 1964! You may never have another chance to buy such an extremely dry, solid and original Airflow in your lifetime. I require a $1000 deposit within 24 hours of the end of auction.
