Vehicle Detail
This 1987 black/black 560sel S-Class has clearly been well taken care of over it's life. If you know these cars, you know that well maintained they will go 300-400k on a gas motor, and 1-2 million on a diesel. This car has some unique factory options - reclining & heated rear seats, heated front seats, medical kit [unused], headlight wipers, anti-theft warning system, green heat insulating glass. Standard features include: ABS, SRS [driver's side air bag], 3 point belts for 4 people [lap belt for center rear], power front seats with 2 position memory, electric tilt & telescope steering wheel, high end sound system, tool kit [still complete & in car], tilt & slide sunroof, green tinted heat resistant factory glass, 3rd brake light, front & rear fog lights, 4 speed auto transmission, electric antenna, SLS [self leveling rear suspension], vacuum driven power locking system, power windows, soft reverse engagement for transmission, leather interior, burl wood trim, full size spare, heated rear glass, heated windshield wiper parking zone [the area where the wipers rest is heated by engine coolant], automatic climate control system. Normally when you buy a car of this age you can expect to put another two thousand or more into it to bring it up to speed. Not the case here! This is what has been done in the last year. New belts Flushed & refilled power steering system, changed filter Replaced air filter [2x] Oil changes every 3 months [I don't drive it enough to hit the 3000 miles between changes] using synthetic only New distributor cap, rotor, & spark plug wires New Bosch Iridium IR-Fusion +4 spark plugs Flush & refill transmission fluid, change filter New wiper blade assemblies [they are specific on this car and cannot be bought at a regular auto parts shop] New headlight wiper blade assembly New fuel filter New windshield New windshield chrome trim Flush & refill rear axle, Lubro-Moly synthetic fluid with special Mercedes recommended Lubro-Moly additive Flush & refill cooling system Flush & recharge A/C system A/C system is R134a [modern] - previous owner had converted it - blows ICE cold Install new fan clutch New drivers side power window switch New passenger side power mirror switch 4 wheel Alignment performed by Mercedes dealership shop foreman Brakes bled & fluid replaced Install new drag link & tie rod ends New hood star New driveshaft center support bearing & support New passenger side headlight New electric antenna New non-SLS rear suspension springs & spring pads [note - SLS system is working perfectly, no leaks - HOWEVER, they are a potential issue on older w126's, so I swapped the soft rear springs for new ones from a non-SLS car, meaning that the SLS system no longer has to 'hold' the car up]. SLS fluid changed. New timing chain, tensioners, guides, camshaft sprockets, valve cover seals, cam oilers, can oiler tubes, etc. If you know the m117 motor, you know it will last forever, as long as the timing chain never goes. These parts should be replaced every 150k miles. DONE. Just had all the minor door dings repaired [paintless dent repair] and had car professionally polished & buffed. This is a 165mph autobahn cruiser. Car still has TONS of power, runs & drives perfectly, . Car comes with all current records, two keys, and an outdoor car cover. Title is clear and in hand. The leather is still soft, supple, and in very good condition. I use Griot's Garage leather rejuvenator once per week [best for older drum dyed leather, unlike today's cheaper painted leather surfaces]. I believe the following work was done prior to the previous owner, however I have no official records of such: new tires installed [tires are 90% life left, good all-season] new radiator, water pump, thermostat, and coolant temp sensor new electric fan motor brake pads & rotors Mercedes Benz factory battery This car is sold as-is. It's a 23 year old car, so it's not perfect. However, my assessment is that it's a solid 8 out of 10, and a 10 out of 10 when you consider the age/miles. A previous owner installed a REALLY nice Alpine unit. It plays CD's, MP3's, WMA's, has an I-Pod hookup cable [allows I-Pod control through the stereo unit], and the car is already wired for an amp [high quality power & 4v RCA leads to trunk are in place]. The radio also has Bluetooth, so you can make phone calls through it or stream music using Bluetooth [presumably, though I never have]. I have a portable Sirius unit also wired in to the radio as well. While the Sirius unit does not come with the car, I'll leave the wiring in place, which allows any headphone-style output to be fed into the Alpine radio. Everything on the car works as it should with no issues unless noted below in flaws that I am aware of: power steering box seepage - FAR from needing to be repaired....fluid is not even hitting the ground. I add about an ounce of fluid every 3-4 months. typical leather wear on drivers seat - not too bad. You can live with it, put a sheepskin on, or get new replacement leather from GAAH. passenger side mirror does not adjust electrically as it should - it stays where you manually adjust it, but the electric adjustment is not working cargo net on passenger side rear seat back has been pulled off cargo net on driver's side rear seat back is stretched out super minor seepage from a couple minor external seals on the transmission - again, FAR from needing any repairs - I check the fluid level once a month and I've never needed to top it up. front & rear bumpers show evidence that a previous owner may have been parking challenged.....some scrapes & nicks, etc. wheels have some scrapes/nicks on them, however they are round & true Wood condition: the dash & door panel wood is all in VERY GOOD condition. Extremely faint clear coat hazing beginning to form, but only noticeable if you compare to a new car. The wood around the HVAC controls [center dash] shows some crack lines, but still looks pretty good. The wood around the shifter [center console] is rougher - has numerous cracks and is getting hazy. Not terrible, but I am trying to be as descriptive as possible. Paint/Body: I do not believe this car has ever been in an accident or had any sheet metal replaced. I do believe that it has been re-painted professionally once before in it's life. I am not aware of any rust at all - I have been under the car and all factory undercoating is strong & intact. All body VIN stickers are in place as they should be. Paint is glossy with a deep shine. There are a few tiny nicks/rock chips, but FAR fewer than you would expect on a vehicle of this age/mileage.
