Vehicle Detail
Where do I start. You are bidding on a 1972 Datsun 240Z original Survivor in original condition. This is a real deal with all of its original parts. I bought it from the original owner who maintained it original to keep forever 24 years ago while living in Georgia. He had the car undercoated when it was brand new (what foresight) and it has stayed solid ever since. He kept all paper work for car like warranty stamp card, window sticker, sales receipt, radio info, etc which I now have and goes with car. When I bought it it was faded some which is common for the paint they used. I ordered every piece of chrome, rubber, emblems, exhaust system from the header back including one of the last obsolete inventory mufflers with the right tip and sound (Still on the Car) for this car. I then stripped all of the paint off of the outside of the car ( I have pictures of it naked) and sent it to a body shop and had a base coat clear coat paint job in the original color as you see it. I am very picky and I think he could have done a better job (some small tiny granules under the paint in some spots) but everyone who sees the car say it is the best paint job they ever saw. I am very picky and I am talking about small stuff most people can't see if I point it out. After the new paint, we then put on new emblems, bumpers, bumperettes with new rubber rub strips. new windshield so it is shiny (all windows were out of car for painting) and new weather strip for the windows doors, hatch, hood, new door handles, outside mirrors, etc. You get the idea. The car has only been driven a few thousand miles since painting 20 years ago. You will notice that you can see all of the factory welds on the rear wheel openings which are original. The front fenders and headlight buckets are original to the car. Now we are under the hood. Under the hood itself and the entire engine compartment was not painted because it was not faded and I don't like cars over done. Look at the picture with the battery removed and you will see original paint and metal. The original numbers matching engine including the E88 head is in the car. Also the original 4-speed, Shifter, and rear end with a new rubber mount. This car came with braided hoses and still utilizes most of them and the ones replaced were replaced with genuine Nissan printed hoses which are acceptable for judging at car shows. I replaced some of the gas lines and filter and the gas lines are not Nissan because they wanted $12 an inch which I thought was absurd. If you take off the printing they will pass judging. I replaced some of the short hoses near the intake and the thermostat recently including a flush of the entire system. I replaced the radiator years ago and it works fine and always runs 180. The carbs are original to the car and work as they should. The spark plug wires are original to the car and are date coded 1972 and work fine. I have a new cap and rotor not yet installed, you make the call. It starts as soon as you touch the key so I didn't touch them. The air filter has never been painted and could use a few decals which are available. I went through the braking system a couple of months ago with new calipers, pads, rubber hoses, complete rear new brakes including shoes, hardware, and new Nissan wheel cylinders which I paid $100 a piece with a list of $189. I have 1978 wheels with newer tires on it now and in one picture you will see the original 1972 Wire basket mags that were installed by the dealer. They are included with the car. All lights, buzzers and things work as they should. I have all paper work for the car including window sticker, warranty charge card with body and engine #'s on it, sales invoice, radio brochure, owners manual, etc. This car has the original Datsun muffler and tip and sounds right and should help win shows. Not installed on the car is any hose not replaced yet under the hood along with new nissan shifter, shifter boot, extra set of Datsun clamps for under the hood hoses and other things that I just can't think of. Now the interior. You will see in the pictures that ii has its second set of seat covers from Nissan and are very heavy duty and have the vents. They each have split on one of the seams and my upholstery guy says that he can take them apart and sew the seams slightly closer to strengthen, add some foam and will charge $200 to keep it original. I also have new aftermarket seat covers which go with the car but they do not do it justice. The carpets are all new and have never been used and include the small pieces behind the seats on the floor. I also have the shoulder belts that mount on the roof and fold up if not in use. The dash has some large cracks and I have a complete full cap to put on it or there are other more expensive options. The electric antenna works fine and the original radio is in the car and worked fine until recently. It could be a connection or a speaker but I have not had time to fool with it. The speedometer stopped working this summer and I don't know what it is but shouldn't be anything big. The heater, fan, etc all works like it should and the car is a real sports car with no air. condtioning. The original lining matrerial in the compartments behind the seats is still there as well as all of the tools, jack, wheel chocks, etc.and the rubber gaskets under the lids. The original spare is in its spot with the fiber board top and all new carpets. Also included are the straps which hold down the cargo. Some of the interior plastic pieces need to have the black plastic push buttons installed but I think I have most of them. I think I covered everything. Ask if you have any questions or need additional pictures by email and I will respond quickly or if you are serious, you can call me at 440-725-8163 all day and not after 9:00 pm. This car must be picked up no later than 7 days after the auction ends or if you are shipping it ( I can help on this end but you line it up ) must happen within 7 days of end of auction. No Excuses The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end early. I am moving and downsizing which is the only reason it is for sale. Please note my 100% positive feedback. Good Luck Bidding and I hope it goes to a good home.
