Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE!! 1981 Smokey and the Bandit series Turbo Trans Am. This car just came out of 10 year storage in Sunny Phoenix, Arizona! This T-Top T/A is highly optioned. It has had one older paint job, but otherwise is completely original. The list of options include: power windows, door locks, and trunk, AC, PS, PB, Tilt, posi rearend, 4 wheel disc brakes, Turbo engine, Turbo lights on the hood, rear window defrost, Radial Tuned Suspension, etc. This car has been stored for the past 10 years here in Phoenix, Arizona. The body is pretty nice. It has had one older paint job, maybe 15 years ago. The paint shows signs of age but still looks pretty decent. The hood bird is probably original but the other decals were probably replaced when the car was painted. The front bumper cover looks like it was "touched up" by a previous owner, so it is missing the pin stripes. There are a couple of small dings and a minor dent or two. It could use a thorough detail/polishing to remove very minors scratches in the paint from the car being rubbed against, etc. I was told that it came from Colorado originally so there is a small amount of rust mostly in the lower front fenders. All the glass is good. The driver's exterior door handle has a crack in it but is still useable. The door handles have the original "Limited Edition" logos. The car still has it's original Turbo wheels. The tires are dry from sitting in the heat and need to be replaced before driving. Overall this car looks great. It could be enjoyed as is, but to make it a show car it would need to be painted. The interior is original and needs repairs in some places. The seats have splits in them and the headliner needs to be repaired. The gauges are nice. The original clock works! I was told the car originally came with an 8 track player which later was removed for a modern stereo. That stereo is now also missing. The T-Top bags are in the trunk. The engine is the factory Turbo 301 with an automatic transmission. With a new battery installed and some fresh gas this car started right up for us and the motor sounds good. The transmission grabs in all the gears and the brakes and steering work well. The brake light on the dash is on when the car is running which might be due to a vacuum leak somewhere. I was told the car went through a major overhaul before it was put into storage and that certainly appears to be correct. At that time the AC compressor was replaced and the ac system was serviced, the starter was replaced, and the original Quadrajet was rebuilt. Even though there are no miles on the rebuild the carb. it needs to be gone through again before the car can be driven on the street. This car has factory four wheel disc brakes and a posi-traction rearend. Overall this is a very nice and rare Trans Am. 1981 is the very last year for the second generation Firebird and not many of the Bandit Turbo Trans Am were built. This car can be driven the way it is or fixed up as an investment. To make a super nice show car it would basically need everything. To use as a fun and stunning driver this car is ready to go. I was planning on driving and enjoying this car while I fixed it up but my wife and I have decided to buy a house and need money for the down payment. I have put a reserve on this auction but it is very low because I need the money. This car comes with a clean and clear Arizona title. THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION!! Shipping costs will be the buyer's responsibility. I am happy to help out as I can with arranging transportation. I ship cars to Sweden every month and have been for many years. I require a $1000 deposit within 24 hours of the end of auction. The remainder must be paid within 7 days. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have.
