Vehicle Detail

1973 Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback needs a good home. This little car is a great find for someone interested in restoring a VW Type III Fastback. It is in good condition considering its age and location. The dashboard has no cracks, and the vinyl interior is in good shape except for a rip along the top of the back seat. The carpet is still in place. The floor mats, engine and trunk covers all appear to be original. No modifications have been made to the engine to attach a modern carburetor. There is some rust in the front trunk compartment that will need to be dealt with, but overall, the body is solid. The paint is still holding up and the color does not appear to have been changed by any previous owners. The odometer reading listed is what shows inside the car, but the title says this number is not accurate – we do not know the actual miles. Currently the fuel tank is in place but not connected, and as you can see from the pictures, it will need four new tires. This German beauty was all but forgotten in the overgrown side lot of a local VW repair shop. The owner of the shop took it in trade from an employee but then let it sit on his lot for three years. At the time it was parked, the engine ran. We put in a new battery and had keys made. Even without gas, when we turned the key in the ignition, the engine tried to turn over and the lights/blinkers worked. It may not in fact take much work to make this car drivable again. We have not had the car very long and we were really looking forward to restoring it ourselves. Unfortunately, since its purchase, one of our daily drivers died completely and the other has needed some expensive repairs to keep it running. As heartbreaking as it is, we now need to sell our project Type III so that we can purchase another family sized daily driver. We hope to find a buyer who has a real love for these old Type III VWs and wants to restore it to its original state. Restored, this will be a great car. Serious bidders only please. There are more detailed pictures on the car’s shutterfly page http://otto73.shutterfly.com/pictures/5. Feel free to email us if you want to come see the car before bidding or if you have questions – we will answer them to the best of our ability.
