Vehicle Detail
1988 Ford Bronco II, 2.9 liter, 4x4, automatic transmission, auto/electric shifting 4x4. I've owned several Bronco II's over the years. I had this one in my possession for about a year. I bought this one from an older gentleman (retired Marine) locally, thinking I'd either pull the engine and tranny out of it for a lifted Bronco II that I have or else restore it. The truck seemed to be in too good of condition to warrant pulling the engine and tranny so I decided to keep it and I've done a few things to it (see below), but just can't afford keeping another vehicle right now. I've had several of these Bronco II's over the years and have sold several via eBay as well. Check my feedback. You'll find the truck as I describe it. Strengths: The engine and tranny are in great shape. These are not original to the truck. I mainly bought the truck because of the good motor and tranny. The 2.9 has almost none of the typical lifter "tick" associated with these 2.9's. It starts up immediately and runs very cool while holding good oil pressure. It runs good, strong, lots of pep as it accelerates. No oil dripping and no smoking AT ALL, not even on start up. The tranny shifts very strong and you can really run thru the gears. It shifts up and down with no problem at all. 4x4 works fine, in high and low range. This is the electric shifting transfer case, with auto locking front hubs. Has almost new exhaust and muffler. Has almost new brake master cylinder. Tires are 80-90% all the way around (P205.75r15, which was factory spec). Paint (white, with blue swoosh) is fairly good, with several little scratches and a few rust spots. No rust-thru in body. Brakes work good. The suspension has 2-3 inches of lift, makes the truck sit up real perky. I recently put a brand new battery on it too. Known problems: AC does not work. Compressor has been pulled. Interior shows usual wear, driver seat has some stretch tears and has lost its firmness in the seat bottom and you sort of sink down in it. Passenger inside door pull is off, but have a replacement. The horn is not working, but an after market horn button has been installed and needs wiring up to pass inspection. I believe the front windshield seal must be leaking slighty on the passenger side, as there will be some wetness in the passenger floor board after a heavy rain. The previous owner ran a bead of clear silicon around the outside window trim, apparently to eliminate this. But there's still some leaking. The carpet and floor are not ruined or rusted thru. The overhead above-rearview mirror-console, contains the 4x4 shifting buttons. The 4x4 switches work right. But one of the two reading light switches there is busted. This can be fixed or replaced. Can easily find it on eBay. Back hatch/door holds in up position okay, but rattles a bit when going over bumps. So it needs adjusting. There are a few spots of surface rust "bubbling" under the paint in typical places. But no rust-through. See the photos, I've tried to capture each of these. Fenders have very little rust, and what's there can be easily repaired. I just decided to let someone else fix this one up. The vinyl door panels are pealing around the edges in places and either need repair or replacing to be up to new look. The front chrome bumper has a spot where the chrome is separating and some rust is coming through. See the front pic (the rust spot is slightly right of center). The check engine light comes on from time to time and will go off when it gets up to running temperature usually. I've tried pulling codes and it doesnt' register any. As stated earlier, engine runs cool with good oil pressure. Starts immediately, so I really don't know what's triggering the light from time to time. Never anything I can detect in performance. NOTE REGARDING THE "ODOMETER" ISSUE REPORTED VIA THE TITLE CHECK. I have had this same problem before on these older vehicles. The mileage is 255k, but when I transferred the title, I put on the paper work 55k (rather than 255k, as I didn't know if it was 155k or 255k), as the actual odometer only reads to the tens of thousands digit. Just look at the vehicle report and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see there has been no odometer roll back on this. Check my feedback. Overall: I've done my best to describe this little baby. This will make somebody a dependable 4x4 for the deer lease or for playing around in the woods or on the trails. It is still attractive and very sporty looking, and you would not be embarrassed at all around town either. If you put some beefier tires on it, it would really look cool. The truck is in pretty good condition, with high miles, but is not show room model. Just be realistic about it. Read all the stuff I've placed here and you will have no surprises. There are a few squeaks and rattles, and dings, about normal or better I'd say, for a 23 year old truck with over 200k. The engine and tranny are worth well more than you'll have to pay to purchase this truck. These are really fun little SUVs, with a very tight turn radius and short wheel base, so you can go just about anywhere in 4x4. I've enjoyed them for years. Please feel free to ask any questions before auction end. I sell the vehicle "as is", with no warranty. You're welcome to come drive it. I reserve the right to close the auction early as the truck is for sale now locally. Very low reserve. Just need to get this truck out of my backyard. Bid with confidence. Check my 100% feedback.
