Vehicle Detail

This beautiful and garaged for its entire life, all original 1971 Opel GT is one of the prize cars of my collection that I am having to downsize. This car is the rare blue with white tan interior, completely original with no cracks on the dash, no rips on the seats, etc. The carpet is original and well taken care of. All the gauges work extremely well, including, and I have never seen this on any Opel GT...the clock...yes, the clock actually works, and works well. I bought three Opel GT cars six years ago and didn't stop until I found this well cared for car to remind me of my Opel GTs that I drove in college. I am only the third owner, the second owner having owned the car for over 20 years, and who bought it from the first original owner (a Detroit Buick Auto factory worker). I have priced the reserve very low to sell on this auction. I just sold a beautiful 1984 Pininfarina from my collection and this one will hurt to sell just as much because I know I will never find another Opel GT of this condition 40 years old and counting.... The engine was re-done at 75K miles top to bottom and drives like a brand new engine, currently with only 25,994 miles. The oil pressure needle shows high oil pressure between the 3 and 4 mark...at new car levels. The distributor has been converted to electronic for better and more even spark. The carburetor is tuned as is the entire car. The engine compartment is very clean. ALL the electrical works perfectly!! (another rarity in these cars) The exterior of the car is immaculate with the second paint job from 15 years ago having a very nice gloss to every part of the car. I note that the original paint still shows in the engine compartment and in the door jams. The newer paint is more of a darker metallic blue....very very nice. This Opel still has the original painted metal trim outlining the outside rear of the car. There are no dents, no dings anywhere on this car. There is no rust on the body except for minor area near the carburetor (see picture), which can be easily sanded down, treated, and touched up. This Opel was garaged for all 20 years by the second owner, and also garaged by the first owner. The radio was replaced in the 1990's with an AMFM CD radio. The mirrors have been replaced also. The wheels are Daytona mags with tire tread evenly worn, good for at least another 25K miles. Note: a header muffler was installed before I purchased the car. I have the original, in good condition, entire exhaust system with the rear muffler and dual chrome exhausts. That is included with the car. I am looking for someone who will care for this car and realize there are few original Opels around...in other words keep this car for history as much as for enjoyment. Please see the slide show below from Picasa for many exterior and interior pictures. On Sep-03-10 at 05:49:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Serious bidders only.
