Vehicle Detail

For your consideration is my latest project - a 1975 BMW R90/6 aka "The Turd" I purchased this old airhead about a year ago. I rescued her from a guy who was in the process of hacking her up and supposedly turning her into a "cafe racer". I couldn't stand to see one of these classics abused like that and I was ready for another project so I purchased the bike (paid WAY too mch for her - almost twice what I am listing her for) and went to work. Over the past year, this is what I can remember doing to this bike. Repaired the non-working charging system by replacing the voltage regulator. Replaced some crap JC Whitney megaphone mufflers with the correct BMW style mufflers. Replaced the stubby sport handle bars and bar end mirrors with the correct roadster wide BMW bars and mirrors. The mirrors are not BMW brand. Of course, installing the wide bars required buying and installing new, longer throttle cables. Question: How do you make $1 million restoring old motorcycles? Answer: Start with $2 million! I replaced the scratched and dented headlight bucket and ring with a newly powdercoated bucket and nice ring. I replaced the sub frame that had been broken and welded with a newly powdercoated sub frame that looks like factory new. I repaired the tang on the center stand with a very robust one that is much stouter than the stock unit that had been broken off. I completely rewired the bike - purchased a replacement wiring harness so that I would have good runs to all of the directional lights that I had to add because the original directional lights had been hacked off the bike when I got her. This past weekend I replaced all of the oils in the bike. I changed the filter and used factory BMW oils for the motor and trans, shaft and rear drive unit. I replaced and bled the brake fluid. The bike has always started easily and run well. I don't know of any serious mechanical issues at this time. I do need to complete the installation of the new left hand switch gear so that the headlight works as expected, but this is a minor task that I should complete by this weekend. I also may swap the current exhaust mufflers with some new, never used Emgo mufflers. These are BMW replicas and have never been installed on a bike. I got these new mufflers with a R90S basket case that I recently purchased. The older mufflers currently installed on The Turd are off a '74 R90S that I restored and I think I want to keep the original parts for the 90S. So, that is about all I can think of. I am trying my best to accurately describe this motorcycle. I have a perfect feedback rating that I intend to protect and I want the future owner to be pleased with this purchase. This is no show bike, but it has that airhead character and I always get the "thumbs up" from others whenever I take her out. Cosmetic flaws include, but not limited to; two shallow dents in tank (see video) and small scratches on front fender. Here is the kicker... I am ready to move this bike as I have other pojects under way and I need to space for more toys. I am listing this as a NO RESERVE auction with a modest $1,500 starting bid price. PLUS - If the buyer purchases with the $2,300 "Buy It Now" price I will deliver within 250 miles of Tulsa for no additional charge. This includes Dallas, Wichita, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Fort Smith, and many smaller villages and towns too numerous to mention. I will attempt to embed a YouTube link of a video of thebike that I made yesterday. If you wish additional information or photos, please contact me and I will be glad to respond. Anyone in the Tulsa area is welcome to stop by and check out the bike. Wire transfer, Cash or Cashier's Check. If Cashier's Check, I need to allow time for the check to clear before I turn over the keys and title. Clear title is in my name and there are no leins on this bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um-qEwQr5SEOn Aug-22-10 at 11:08:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: Sunday PM 8/22/10 - The headlight is working properly, high beam, low beam, flash to pass... Also, the new mufflers are installed in place of the older ones that came off my '74 90S. Also, although the existing battery was working fine, its size was rather small so I purchased a brand new battery from Cycle Gear ($81) that is properly sized and will have more cranking reserve power than the old one, so the bike now has a brand new battery.
