Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a 1974 Mercedes time capsule when Mercedes knew how to build a car! This 1974 Mercedes 240D belonged to my father-in-law who’s name was Conrad. Need I say more? I’m not joking when I tell you that Conrad checked the weather forecast before taking the car out of the garage. The car has never seen rain or snow! It was his second car and pride and joy. It was everything he had worked for all his life. He said he would keep the car until the day he died and he did, but unfortunately he died in 1982. In those eight years he put about 27,600 miles on the car and today the car has 27910 actual miles. My wife inherited the car and she never allowed it to be used for transportation and of course selling the car was out of the question. Conrad grew up as an orphan and became a self-made man. His dream was always to own a Mercedes although he had never been to Germany. If it wasn’t German made then it couldn’t be any good. It was always a topic for good laughter. When Conrad took delivery of his car he drove one mile to the Ziebart rust-proofing center and had the car rust proofed for “life.” That’s why you can’t find corrosion of any kind anywhere on the car or in the car. Everything is like new including the leather seats, seals, carpet etc. All the manuals are with the car and the original floor mats are also like new. The car has a sun roof, air, electric windows and everything works. When it was decided the car would not be driven regularly I prepared the car for long-term storage by draining the fluids and fogging the engine. I had my friend in England who made all the Formula One race car covers make me a custom cover for the car ($500) and it was put in my heated hanger on blocks where it sat until a month ago. It is being sold because I have sold my hanger and there is no place to keep it. When we took the car out for the first time I took it to my mechanic and he prepared the car for re-comissioning. Oiled the cylinders and put fluids in. The car started right up. But to make certain the car was right we decided to replace all the brake and water hoses, and I had him put a new oil injection pump on the engine and new glow plugs. The car runs great……because it is virtually new. The tires are new (1974) so they should be replaced by the new owner. The car needs a new “Conrad”. The reserve is fair and if you need any questions answered or more pictures then feel free to contact me (Gary) at any time. My phone number is 248 252 4010 EST.
