Vehicle Detail
1999 Audi A6 Avant Bought this wagon in 2006 at ~ 111,000 miles and put ~113,000 miles on it in ~ 4 years. As a rough guess, 75 percent or more of these miles were highway miles. It has been a fun highway vehicle. Features: 8-speaker sound system with Audi integrated subwoofer Quattro All Wheel Drive6 disc CD changer AM/FM radio and cassette tape player (connecting with a cassette adapter is an excellent way to make it work with a MP3 player/iPod/Zune/iPhone/etc.) Power locks and windows Power mirrors Dual front and front & rear side airbags ABS brakes Dual automatic Climate Control Trip Computer (calculates average and instant mpg, time of trip, etc.) Cruise Control Front and Rear Fog Lights Leather Seats (to my knowledge. I believe I saw something on the internet that they might be leatherette, but I don't think they are and doubt Audi would put something that cheap in their vehicles) 16" wheels 5-speed automatic with option to shift electronically (Audi's tiptronic)Garage door opener built into sun visor Rear heat/air conditioning vents Front and rear heated seats Includes one switchblade remote key (panic button has worn off, all others work), valet key, and very tiny thin key (actually always kept that one in my wallet) Auction starting price is below market value. The Edmunds True Market Value private party price for this car (which I find to be more representative and actually lower than Kelley Blue Book) is $1,344in rough condition and $2,040 in average condition. Kelly Blue Book is $3,120 in fair condition. I will let you make a judgment based on the following descriptions where my vehicle should fall in. I have a large amount of the service records (probably not all, but a large majority). Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or if you want to see additional pictures. I have some additional ones taken and can take pictures of specific areas on request. Recent large repairs/maintenance items that have been performed: 4 NEW Tires (Continental ExtremeContact DWS) 5/25/2010, 223,845 miles Replace spark Plugs (3/2010, ~220k miles) Front (1/2010, ~215k miles) Brake rotor resurfacing Left and Right Calipers replaced with remanufactured calipers Brake pads replaced Right and Left Brake hose replaced Exhaust flex pipe and Differential Service (7/2009, ~198k miles) Large preventative maintenance.(9/2009, ~202k miles) Replace: Water pump Thermostat Timing Belt Tensioner & Idler Pulley Replaced some of the alloy wheels with what I believe to be aftermarket replicas at various points due to damage. Replaced passenger side catalytic converter twice (once due to original part failure and once due to damage I accidentally caused by hopping a curb) with direct fit aftermarket (approx. July 2009 and November 2009). NOTE: This catalytic converter is NOT California compliant. Make sure your sate does not require a California emissions compliant catalytic converter (some may). This car has not had to undergo an emissions inspection since 2006/2007 (not sure which year the actual inspection was conducted). At that point, I moved to a location that did not require emissions inspection. It has passed safety inspection every year. However, the inspection expired last month on this vehicle. If purchasing in Pennsylvania, you are required by law to get it inspected within 10 days of purchase. It is the buyers' responsibility to follow all applicable inspection laws in PA or any other state. Known mechanical/functional issues Valve cover gasket is leaking and should be replaced Brakes feel weak. As a result of a free brake inspection, the following replacements were suggested: Rear brake rotors Rear brake pads Right rear break caliper Emergency brake feels like it takes too many "clicks" until engagement. It has been suggested that the car may need struts, but not visually verified by a mechanic. These have not been replaced during my ownership to the best of my recollection. Windshield washer fluid reservoir leaks (I have a replacement part from a salvage yard which would be included in the sale, but I just did not put it in). Vibration at high speeds. I have had some form of this problem since buying the car and no one has really pinpointed it. I drive the car infrequently now so I feel it may be worse than usual, but not sure. Metal noise when wheels spin at low speeds. Have been unable to get this to replicate itself at the mechanic so I'm not sure what it actually is. A/C compressor may be on its way out. At stop signs, tachometer jumps all over the place when A/C is on. Not too noticeable when moving. Virtually non-existent when the A/C is off. However, still blows cold. Car sometimes seems to stumble when driving or when flooring pedal. and sometimes pops hard into gear. It is hard to describe and has been going on in some form or another for a while (although it may be getting worse, but I am not sure due to infrequency of driving vehicle). May be a transmission issue or engine issue or neither and the car is just getting old, but I have never had it investigated. There is sometimes a ticking that varies with the HVAC blower speed, but I have had this problem for quite some time with no signs of it being an actual issue beyond periodic ticking. I have not had this confirmed or denied by a mechanic, but I feel it may be using oil at a faster rate than it used to (this may be related to the valve cover gasket, but that is just aguess on my part) I have a cord to scan the computer for codes so I sometimes scan when there are issues, but no check engine light. The following two fault codes came up during my last scan in April, but the Check Engine light is not on. The first one periodically has been showing up for a long time and periodically makes the Check Engine light come on I(and sometiems it even goes away on its own). Engine: 16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow P0441 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent Auto HVAC: 00604 - Potentiometer Positioning Motor for Air Flow Flap (G113) 30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent I do not have the rear cargo cover and it is not included in this auction. There is a rear cargo area sunshade that is built into the cargo door however. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The only car-on-car accident I have ever been in with this vehicle was a very low speed collision in which someone to my left misjudged when merging in heavy traffic and struck my left rear quarter panel. This panel was repaired and repainted. I have struck/scraped (due to low bumper) curbs accidentally and once accidentally drove over a curb (as mentioned in catalytic converter comment). The car has chrome-colored side view mirror covers on them, but the original black mirror covers would also be included in the sale if that is preferred. I upgraded the speakers a long time ago due to one of them not working properly when I bought the car. I do not remember what I changed the speakers to. I believe it was just the front four (two per door). The only issue with speakers that I have noticed since is sometimes I feel like one side is not playing music, but when I momentarily blast the music the sound comes back. It was suggested to me during my pre-purchase inspection when I bought the car four years ago that it may have been in accident. It did not receive much garaging during my ownership. The drivers' seat belt seems slightly twisted and needs adjustment sometimes when putting it on. The vehicle has been like this for as long as I can remember. Known cosmetic problems Some dents, dings, and scratches. The car is 11 years old so I do not want to list every single mark, but will try to hit some of the major points. Front hood has a dull spot where I, ill advisedly, used rubbing compound and wore off some of the surface Back bumper has some scratches on top and scratch marks on back of it (where it seems like it was backed into a stopsign) Roof has at least one spot where the paint has chipped and there are signs of rust Left rear quarter panel has some scratches and paint is also showing signs of rust forming beneath it (picture included). Front bumper is pulled off slightly on one side (picture included in this listing) and underside is misformed. This vehicle has a very low front clearance so the bumper occasionally gets caught on parking markers. I bought the car with a portion of this problem (the previous owner actually did it when rushing for the birth of his child). Related to the front bumper being so low and catching curbs sometimes, some screws holding on plastic covers in the wheel well are missing and the plastic is slightly pulled away from where it should be. There is a mark on a rear door where it seems like a heavy object fell and essentially ripped the paint off. I bought the car with this issue. Some of the clear coat on the left rear quarter panel is coming off. I was unimpressed with the paint job that was done as a result of the accident mentioned earlier. The liquid that performs the auto-dimming function on the mirrors is leaking on the drivers' side mirror and rear view mirror. It is not leaking out anywhere I have ever seen and I don't think it has actually changed in quite some time, but it has shifted such that there are portions of the mirror which are just regular mirror glass with no dimming capacity. Pixels on computer display go from being practically brand new to being non-existent depending on conditions. A picture example of this is included in this auction. This is unfortunately a design flaw with these vehicles. Front cigarette lighter is loose and cigarette ashtray/lighter drawer does not open as it should (it opens and closes, but is more clunky than it should be). Right rear cigarette ashtray door will not stay closed. Glove box does not slowly open as it used to and just opens with no slow resistance as it originally had. Both rear cupholders do not function as they should and one is missing a front. Rear cargo door has a spot where an emergency triangle is kept on the interior, but the cover broke off and the pieces no longer stay in the cargo door. Interior liner of cargo door sometimes seems loose, but still works. There is a portion of a plastic cover on the door trim that chipped off (probably from a heavy object hitting it) Front headlights are weathered Sunroof and internal shade for sunroof do not function properly (sunroof does go up and down for venting however) White paint mark on the center armrest One of front sun visors is broken Rear central roof lights do not always function Steering wheel has faded and is worn The car does not have a resonator. Rather than preplace the ~$1,000 part, it was just removed from the system and metal bypass piece was welded in. This means the vehicle has a slightly more throaty sound to it, has a rattle-like sound under hard acceleration, and is louder due to the removal of this piece. It was explained that the main purpose of this piece was just sound deadening and it would have been a ~$1,000 repair. Driver's seat seems loose. It rocks back very slightly. I have driven many miles with this and I suspect it's just a loose bolt, but am not sure. One of the plastic lug nut covers (a cosmetic cover not related to the function of the lug nut) is missing.Plastic wheel center caps with Audi symbols show wear (one is missing most of the gray covering it should be)Front seats show wear (rear seats were rarely used during my ownership) I have tried to include everything I can recall about this car, but I do not guarantee that these lists are exclusively everything that is wrong with the car. I am sure I missed something with the cosmetic issues (most likely not on the mechanical issues). There also could be issues which are unknown even to me. The only thing I guarantee is that everything I include in this auction and in any email communication outside the auction is accurate to the best of my knowledge. You are more than welcome to see the vehicle or have an independent inspection performed at your time and expense. The car is being sold AS-IS with no guarantees or warranties expressed or implied. Again, please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or additional photo requests. $400 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction close. (Due instantly with Buy It Now option) Remaining amount due within 7 days of auction close to be paid by cashiers' check, bank-certified loan check, or cash (if in-person). Car to be picked up either to drive away in-person or for buyer-arranged shipping within 10 days of auction close and only after full payment is made. Time is of the essence in this transaction. Buyer is responsible for paying all sales tax, registration fees, insurance, etc. required to be able to drive this vehicle once title is signed over. I am not a dealer and cannot provide temporary license plates. Vehicle will not be able to be driven after purchase using current plates/registration so this will need to be arranged ahead of time (in coordination with myself signing and sending the title) or the vehicle will need to be shipped. I do sell to Canada. Buyer is responsible for all arrangements involving taking car into Canada (paying any tariffs, duties, etc., coordinating with customs, shipping vehicle, etc.). I am only responsible to sign the title over. All transactions are to be in US dollars and not Canadian. Unless in cash, final payment must clear before Canadian buyers can take vehicle.
