Vehicle Detail

For auction - Land Rover 110 Long-Wheelbase, 4-door. This truck is a 1983 (not 1980 as listed in the ebay system) and old enough for US importation. This truck was imported from Britain about a decade ago, and we took it through an extensive refurbishment in 2003 when it came into our hands. It has logged 80,000-100,000 km since most of this work was done. It is not a concours truck, but a practical and reliable daily workhorse with scratches, dents, and a used patina. It is very solid mechanically, doesn't leak oil, and has many mechanical updates including fabulous brakes that can lock up all 33" tires on the highway with ease. The diesel engine is strong, and for regular highway commuting returns ~20 mpg (US - or 24 mpg British). During rebuild, it was converted to left hand drive, making it one of only a few LHD Land Rover 110s in eastern North America. Over time, the truck also inherited several aesthetic features of older Series trucks, including liftgate/tailgate rear (instead of door), and dashboard style. The 110 is safety certified in Nova Scotia through July 2011. Truck is located near Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada. ENGINE: Toyota 3.4 litre 3B diesel engine (legendary half-million km longevity), turbocharged. Four years ago we replaced our underpowered 2.5d with the Toyota diesel, which was fully rebuilt at the time including sleeves, pistons, all bearings, new head and hotspots, rebuilt injection pump and injectors, new starter. Professional adapter plate from the UK was used in the conversion. Turbo runs 6-8 psi boost. Unlike 2.5 diesel engines in so many imported 110s, this truck will maintain up to 110 km/h on the highway, including up most hills. The engine is very healthy, and has only failed to start one morning in 6 years despite its lack of a block heater and regular overnight winter temperatures to -20 degrees C. If it were to spend more of its life in warmer weather, I'd consider installing a turbo intercooler to maintain performance in the heat. The truck has a Griffin crossflow aluminum racing radiator. CHASSIS: Good shape, no known areas needing patches. Regularly undercoated. Galvanized rear crossmember (bumper) welded on in 2003. STEERING: Left-hand drive converted, stock 4-bolt Rover power steering. DRIVELINE: Ashcroft rebuilt LT77 transmission (late style, with big bearings like R380). Transfer case (Q) from 1999 Land Rover. Custom driveshafts by Drive Products, including double-cardan front. Detroit locker in rear axle. BFG MT 255-85R16 (33.5" x 10"), well worn and likely needing replacement within the next year. SUSPENSION: Full OME Heavy duty suspension (springs, shocks). OME castor correction bushings in front end. BRAKES: Hydroboosted unvented discs (front) and drums (rear). Hydroboost brakes are extremely strong, with great modulation too. BODY: Good for age. Overall the body panels are straight and in good shape, but with many small imperfections and scratches/dents (as detailed in some of the images). Galvanized bulkhead (firewall) and doorposts. Rear liftgate/sideswing tailgate combo. There is some aluminum corrosion at the edges of the floors and other area where salt collects. There is a small water leak near the top righthand side of the windscreen. The headliner is different over the driver/passenger (nice carpet) and aft of there (high density closed cell foam). Flaw in the galvanizing on the RH side of the bulkhead, which should probably be cold galvanized (an image shows the minor extent of corrosion over 6 years). New windshield (2010). Doors do not currently have locks installed (shouldn't we all be lucky enough to live in Nova Scotia!). INTERIOR: Series Rover dashboard shelf and central gauge cluster. Seats from Subaru Forester. Rear seats fold forwards. Body stiffener behind rear seats. Double core heater with basic distribution system (but blows plenty of warm air for defogging or heat!). The speedometer is from a Series truck and while it works, is not properly calibrated for the 110 gearing. Bulkhead soundproofing. Slightly undersize spare on somewhat rusty rim. Door handles were recently replaced with new non-remote MOD-type handles for better reliability. ACCESSORIES: Warn M8000 winch (good working order) and large industrial battery in rear bed. Detroit locker in rear. Full length galvanized roof rack. Rock sliders. New trailer wiring. Note that this is an extremely spartan truck without air conditioning, radio, etc. Despite soundproofing it is relatively loud inside like other Rovers, with tire and wind noise dominating the highway conversation. Overall, this Rover would suit an owner with an interest in a mechanically well maintained truck, but who can also maintain attention to detail. There are no imminent mechanical or chassis issues, and someone with more interest in aesthetics could make this truck into a really nice one. This 110 handles very nicely on the OME suspension, could tow a dump truck if needed, and off-road won't give anything up to highly modified Jeeps. It's a super truck and my family has enjoyed it very much, but a new Land Rover restoration project forces sale. Truck is also being advertised locally, and seller reserves the right to discontinue the auction if the reserve has not been met and the truck is sold locally. Reserve price is attractive, and about half the buy-it-now price of similar looking 110s currently on e-bay. Buy-it now option on this auction disappears on first bid. Deposit ($500) is due 24 hrs of auction end, and payments must be made within 7 days of auction close. Buy It Now must contact me within 24 hours to arrange payment details. Non-paying buyers are responsible for incurred bay fees. CAR IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, though I am certainly willing to help arrange shipping details. On 10-Aug-10 at 21:12:34 EDT, seller added the following information: Reserve price is 4-figures, and recently lowered (Tues 9 pm EDT).
