Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1933 MG J2 which I purchased a few years back. It went right into storage as I moved overseas and so the first time I started it was today. After putting in a battery and pumping the gas it started up and seems to do quite well and I even got a video of me driving it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKpfbmNklW4). The gentleman I bought it from said he had stored it for over 25 years so it is approaching 30 years of hiding out! The aluminum body has been painted green and has a number of areas where the paint is flaking off. It seems pretty straight but could use work fixing this and that. The speedometer didn't turn but the cable is there and seems to just need some adjustment. There is a small tear in the passenger side seat and also a small hole in the passenger window (I have both the top and the side curtains). Basically the car needs some fixing to make it really fun and of course a tune up would probably help as any car sitting for so long should be gone through. The MG J2 set the style for British sports cars during the 30s and the 33 is the second year of production. It's cut away doors, cycle type mudgaurds, folding windscreen and slab gas tank with spare wheel really look great. This was the basic style of MGs up until the TF was phased out in the 50s. The four-cylinder, single overhead cam engine has a cross flow head and dual SU downdraft caburettors and puts out about 36 horse power and is rated to 80mph by Autocar magazine in 1932. The engine size is 847cc and is mated to a four-speed Wolsley designed gearboxc with cable-operated brakes. During the entire production run only 2,000 MG J2s were made and of course, not a lot are in the U.S. The car is really cool being so unique and fun - low to the ground, small and peppy. What surprises me is once I'm in the car I have a good amount of room - and I'm 6'2".
