Vehicle Detail
1969 Firebird Convertible Car runs and drives, but in no way do I consider it to be a "safe, driveable" car! It is being sold with the explicit statement that it needs a complete mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic restoration. IF you purchase it and decide to drive it prior to determining mechanical soundness, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE. I will tell you as much as I know about this vehicle. I HIGHLY suggest you come check it out yourself PRIOR to bidding. 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible. Originally blue metallic, then red/brown metallic, now white. Odometer reads 32960 miles. Most likely it is really 132960 miles. Power steering, power drum brakes, power top, automatic transmission, full dual exhaust, genuine Pontiac 400 hood. Engine is a 1974 Pontiac 350 with 4 bbl carb and chromed air cleaner and valve covers. Mileage on engine unknown. Runs well and strong, no oil burning noticed. Radiator has a leak on the left near the top. I have driven it like this and does not present a problem unless stuck in traffic. 3 speed automatic transmission on the floor. Works well, but the pan leaks due to a couple of stripped pan bolts. Genuine 14x6 Pontiac Rally wheels on all 4 corners. Tires NEED replacing (steel belts showing on two of them, all 4 dry rotted). Front subframe is from my former 1974 Nova. They are interchangable, and the Nova had new ball joints, bushings, bearings, shocks, and springs, so it made sense to me to just swap out the subframes since I was parting out the Nova anyway. (Bumper bracket mounting holes need to be elongated for proper bumper alignment). I have PHS documentation (found the build sheet under the rear seat!) Here is a list of what it needs. Of course, this is just what I can remember. Please call with specific questions. If I don't have the answer, I will find out to the best of my ability! Doug (740) 314 7207 Body needs fenders, quarter panels, rocker panels, passenger side rear floor, and doors. Interior needs almost everything (seat cushions, upholstery, carpeting, dash pad, door panels). Dash panel has been cut for the radio. I have an intact one for sale to the buyer (has a small chip on the bottom, under the dash where it's not visible anyway.) Console in good shape, but needs shifter indicator. Top is shot, not even worth seeing. Top frame is in good usable condition, but should be blasted and reconditioned for best results. Top pump needs new seals or replacement. Windshield chrome (where it meets the front of the roof) needs replacement. (I have a set for sale to the buyer). Trunk has surface rust, but is solid. 400 hood has rust on the inside front lip, not visible with the hood closed. I last drove it in April, when I brought it to the hangar where it currently sits. Ran great. Sounds even better. I really love this car and had hoped to restore it "someday", but my new hobby is flying (not cheap), so I'm getting rid of all the "car stuff". (Already sold the '74 Nova and '67 Chevelle convertible). It's time to let it go to someone who will give it the attention it really deserves. My reserve is a very reasonable $3300, no need to ask. $200.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit through Paypal due within 48 hours of auction end. Balance due in cash at pickup, and within 14 days of auction end. Thank you for looking! On Aug-06-10 at 10:37:41 PDT, seller added the following information: I am getting questions about how much work this car needs, such as rust, elecrtical, etc. At the top of the listing it says "needs a complete mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic restoration". Yes, I am covering my butt by saying that. I don't want ANYONE saying I "misrepresented" this, that, or whatever. Of course, it doesn't need EVERYTHING, as it does run and drive. ANY METAL THAT DOES NOT NEED REPLACING CONSIDER A BONUS. If you're serous about this car, PLEASE come inspect it BEFORE bidding. I had a chance to get to the hangar today and take some more pictures. Very difficult to get pictures of the underside, as I don't have a lift. The floor will need replacing. The pictures of the inner wheel wells are blurry, but the best I could get by sticking the camera up on top of the tires. Rear frame rails look good to me, but no guarantees. This vehicle has spent most of its time with me indoors, but was outdoors for a while under a cover and tarp. Condensation/rain has corroded light sockets, so not all the lights work. Count on replacing the light sockets. (Left high beam needs replacing.) Needs front side turn signals (the little round ones). "GEN" light is on, but I don't know why because it is charging. I do know the smaller wires to (from?) the alternator are loose, needs a new connector. Flasher circuit and dash indicators work, wipers work, horn works, courtesy lights work. I have decided to include some spare parts as a bonus. I have a couple of oil filters, the uncut dash panel, the windshield top pieces, rear side flaming bird turn signals and bezels, and glove box liner. (Maybe more, we'll see what I find) I took a short video showing me start it and drive it backwards and forwards. I will post a link to it as soon as I figure out how! At the end of the video, I'm pointing to the exhaust to emphasize the lack of blue smoke. It is still running at the end of the video.
