Vehicle Detail

1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SL 6cly FI, AT, Hardtop, Softtop, Factory AC.... This a a 1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SL, in very nice condition. A good friend of mine bought this car 13 years ago, and has enjoyed it very much. He is retired, and just does not have the time to get it out on the road like it used to. It has done many trips down to Laguna Seca, CA, for the SCCA Historic races, and is a pleasure to drive, he was also an active member in the Portland Mercedes Club as well. Overall it is in very nice shape, and shows very well. This car I would consider an extremely nice driver, occasional show. The paint is around 15 years old, and is showing its age slightly, has a wonderful shine to it, but you really have to get up on it to notice anything. Overall this car is in great condition, and well cared for, it has 2 tops, the Hardtop and Soft Top, which I show in the pictures. The soft top really has never been used since it was installed. The body on the car is very sound, in in great shape. There are no issues with rust on the outside body, very clean, no rust bubbles or issues. The drivers door down low has a small ding in it, you can see it in one of the pictures, the light has to catch it just right but it is there. There are a few other very small dings, but nothing to make note of. There are 2 small indentions on top of the edge of the rear of the truck lid, but very light. There is a small thin spot in the paint, at the bottom of the passengers fender, where it looks hazy, there is a small spot as well on top of the truck lid, corner, that is about the size of a dime as well. Overall the paint is very glossy and shows very nice. At the back of the hood near the vent on the passenger side, there is a small stress crack in the paint, probably from the hood being opened and closed. It looks to have all the original spot welds across inner fenders as well. There are no signs of any major accidents, inner aprons all look great inside the trunk area is nice as well, inner quarters, taillight panel all look very clean. All the door jams look good, and clean as well. The undercarriage of the car is original, and looks very nice, and looks above average for a car that has been driven. If someone wants undercarriage pictures, let me know and I would be glad to put it on a rack so you can see the floors. The floors are original by the way, and have not been replaced. Interior is in very nice shape, the seats have been refoamed a few years back to make them feel a lot nicer. The seats have typical wear but look great. The is one little cut, in the inner side on the passenger seat, see a picture. The carpets are in excellant shape, they have been protected by floor mats when driven. Head liner on the hardtop is in excellant shape as well. The dash pad is in great shape, and all the chrome on the dash looks very nice. All the gauges work, Becker Radio works good as well. It has Factory AC as well. Overall the interior is very nice, and in good condition. Mechanically this 280SL is in great shape. It runs very good, it does not blow any smoke and does not burn any oil. It is running actually in all the pictures. The temp stays right around 180-190 even when it sits in idle for periods of time. The engine revs up very nice, and had plenty of power and torque. As will all MB, you should run Premium fuel. The transmission shifts nicely as well, and is in great working order. The Car has only seen about 30 miles of road time in the last 2 years, so before you take it out for a long drive it would be a great idea to have it serviced. Brakes feel good, emergency brakes works well on the car as well. Tires are in good shape as well, with very good tread, it has P205/70/14's on it. They are one size larger then the factory specs. Overall this will make someone a great show/driver. Odometer reads 82,728, and is believe to be original, but I have no documention, but it looks like it. This car is a very nice car, is it perfect no, is it a great driver, that you can take to any show, and possibly win something perhaps, yes. If you are looking for a Trailer queen this is not the car, but it has the right Pedigree, to be turned into a Concours Car if you choose in the future.
