Vehicle Detail
My family has owned this 1972 AMC Hornet SST since 1976. My grandmother purchased it from a pastor and his wife and it was garaged at all times. When she passed away in 1995, my mom inherited it where it was also always garaged and it has always been driven with care. We have the original window sticker and owners manual (see pics). The car runs good. I remember riding in this car when I was four years old and thinking how cool it was! The factory vinyl sunroof was replaced once and works great, the front seats were reupholstered (rear is original) and the original radio was replaced with an aftermarket unit. Left side from the drivers door to the rear quarter panel was repainted due to another car backing into it and denting the drivers door. Otherwise, the car has never been in an accident and has a clear title. The original paint is cracking on the hood and there are a few other areas where there are chips in the paint. A bit of rust exists on the right rear quarter panel and is shown in a picture. The car has the original wheels and everything else is original. The motor is the 6-cylinder 258 and has 121K original miles. There is a small leak at the valve cover and the trans cooler lines are leaking. Headlights stopped working recently and it is believed to just be a switch. The last minor thing is the drivers seatbelt shoulder harness does not stay locked into the buckle. The lap belt portion works fine but the shoulder harness should be replaced for added safety. My mom is finally ready to part with this car and get something newer to drive back and forth to work. It will be missed. I was taking more pics over the weekend and noticed that the rear differential looks like it is seeping.
