Vehicle Detail
1985 Mazda RX-7 “S” Ext: medium metallic "Tender Blue" (Gray-Blue) Int: Gray cloth bucket seats Engine: completely stock Mazda 2-rotor “12A” with 4-V carburetor all emission controls still hooked up except idle check valve. Trans: stock manual 5-speed Fabulous, great-looking, great-running, un-rusted, all original, intact 62,000+mile car that’s been stored for much of its lifetime. It’s still shiny metallic gray-blue with an almost mint-looking original gray interior. In the true sports car tradition, this is a bare-bones sporty, no-frills edition of the last year for the first generation RX-7 with manual windows and no “soft luxuries" like cruise control! It does have the larger stock alloy wheels, an aftermarket Sony stereo, the remote fuel release door, and the remote radio antenna to name a few of the amenities. According to the build sheet (which I have) there's about 25 things "added" like "vanity mirror on passenger sunvisor" etc. The car spent much of its time as a summer driver and then garaged during the winters in Massachusetts. It sees only casual/pleasure driving here in Indiana, and now it's time to find it a new home. As you can tell from the pictures, this is a really nice, original car with shiny original paint. It was long ago undercoated and has no body rust through, but it isn't perfect or "mint." There are a couple of dings here and there, and a slight double-dimple in the passenger roof—all shown in these recent pictures—though most people don't even notice these things. I am posting some underbody photos to show the undercoating and the nearly complete lack of rust. Original spare has only been on the ground once for less than 5 miles. In the past few years I have put new tires on it, had some front end work done, the transmission gearbox drained and filled with synthetic oil, the brakes repaired/resurfaced, a new radiator and fan clutch put on. Everything is working very well except the A/C which was not blowing very cool air when I got it but then sprang a leak and went totally flat. (All the components seem to be working, but a line sprung a leak.) The only nagging things that do not affect the drivability of the car but might need some attention are: a faulty reading gas gauge, and the butterfly check valve underneath the carburetor. The check valve’s a common problem with an emission valve that allows air into the back rotor during deceleration, and being blocked off sometimes makes the brakes pulse—but the check valve's been plugged off with tubes so that it won’t leak vacuum and won't cause a rough idle, and the car runs just fine this way. You can see the metallic tape plugging the vacuum lines in the photo—nothing’s been removed or changed, and the part is available. Have the Mazda shop manual that goes with the car. I would like to keep the RX-7, but I have too many cars (and just purchased another). This one's been babied and “just for fun,” but it is time for it to go. You will not be disappointed, and inspections are certainly welcome. Car is for sale locally in Evansville, Indiana, so I reserve the right to cancel auction early is sold. On Jun-28-10 at 16:49:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Wanted to add that the car is currently registered and driven (so mileage changes), and that the Mazda stereo was replaced by a Sony in-dash unit. You can see it in the interior photos. Manual choke, intermittent wipers, washers, flip-up headlights, turn signals, sub-zero starting system, rear window defrost, hazard lights, vent fan...it all works. Car passed a thorough inspection when I transferred it to historic plates (25yrs old in Indiana). On Jul-01-10 at 17:04:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Drove it again today. Mileage is at 63,095.I also have one of the gas shocks (only one) for the back glass--which doesn't like to stay up well, especially in cold weather. I lowered the reserve and the buy it now price.
