Vehicle Detail

Beautiful 1969 Karmann Ghia. Red with tan interior & new tan convertible top on a fully reconditioned frame & custom made convertible top boot. Full frame off restoration from top to bottom. All new interior, all seats reconditioned & recovered. New front dash cover & new door hinges. Total mechanical refurbishing including fully rebuilt motor (1493 cc), 4 speed transmission, new C-V joints, all new brake lines, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, all new gas lines & all new cabling. Front end has been rebuilt. Body has been completely refurbished from rear quarters, heater boxes, heater tubes, floor pans to front end, also new rubber gaskets & seals. Many original parts were reconditioned & re-chromed. I bought this great car in March 2007, with it advertised as above & the pictures taken under the car where with that ad (it was delivered in an enclosed truck), I have the pictures of it being unloaded & the other pictures I took. It has a AM/FM Cassette Radio & I have the original gear shift knob, the one in the picture lights up red whenever you turn it on. I am also including a car cover, owner's manual & fitted black carpet for inside the trunk. It's not a trailer queen, I drove it only when the weather was beautiful. It's never seen rain or snow, I have an attached 2-car heated garage. When I had it appraised on March 13,2007, the odometer reading was 81,204, so I've only added 763 miles. I live in a small lake resort of 1,960 people, so it is mostly driven around town. White Motor Company, Collector Car Appraisals in Springfield, MO., (had to drive the 120 mile round-trip there for the appraisal) wrote on the Vehicle Appraisal Form "Vehicle has extensive reconditioning & frame off restoration & is extremely nice. Vehicle would be classified as a #1 excellent condition car." Appraiser's estimated market value $19,000.00. I have enjoyed driving it & all the great compliments, it has acouple of dings on the back & front bumper, hub caps & driver mirror. The body is still in great condition. It did pass the Missouri State Inspection in 2009, so I do have "69 GHIA" plates that expire in 2011. The only problems since then is the horn does not work, the windshield fluid does not spray, the drivers window needs repair, it doesn't go up & down, but all the parts are there, a back plate light needs replaced & the left turn signal does work but has to be flipped back into position. When I bought it I was told the clock works, but doesn't keep the correct time & the gas gauge fluctuates when it gets close to empty. It didn't matter because I wear a watch & never let the gas get below a forth. It is sold as-is. I have bought & sold other classic cars. I usually keep them for 5 years, then get another. But I know I will be having my left knee replaced , after that heals, the right knee replaced, then back surgery. I waited until I couldn't handle the pain anymore & I still have great health insurance. Hopefully, there will be another classic in my future, but probably an automatic. I have additional pictures. Please e-mail me if you have any additional questions Stocktonlake@windstream.net. It is on consignment with two local dealers, they have the info you have plus additional pictures & can be viewed & driven, it is well below the appraised value because I do drive it & because of the problems I listed above, but it is still insured for $19,000.00, unlike jewelry, you only need to have a classic appraised once or if your doing a restoration, updated to keep the value up. ALSO, there is 1969 blue Ghia convertible on sale now & refers to my Ghia's 2007 appraisal of $19,000.00, but it didn't meet the reserve acouple of days ago. Their Ghia was appraised for $10,450.00, 13 years ago. They listed all the changes that was made to the car but did not note what the appraisal is now. If you know classic cars, appraisals are based on how original the car is from the day they were produced. Just like the Kelley Blue Book for newer cars, there is a Classic Blue Book, with excellent being the highest rating & just like Kelley, there is only a certain amount every car can be insured for. As I said above, mine was rated "Excellent" & the highest amount it can be insured for is $19,000.00, which it is. It is important that you get a Certified Appraisal, if a car is totaled or stolen, insurance companies only have to pay half of the bill of sale, but 100% of a Certified Appraisal. My point is, be sure the car you buy is insured for appraised value & depending on how you do the paperwork, keep it under the seller's insurance until you sign on the bottom line, insure it, then get a Certified Appraisal & then update your insurance for that amount before you start enjoying your classic. I have State Farm & I have been with them for 35 years, so protect your investment.
