Vehicle Detail

1973 Datsun 240z, s30 Series NO RESERVE!!! This is the last year of the 240Z cars, this car has been in hibernation for the last 10 years, sitting up on stands in a heated garage, up until about 3 weeks ago. These cars are great in my opinion, and overlooked by the general community when it comes to collectors, I am sure many folks would agree. When the secret gets out about how great these cars are, they will be very sought after. These cars were designed after the world famous Datsun 2000 GT, if you never saw one look one up on the internet, and look how much the Z car resembles its likeness. This is a numbers matching Z car, it has the Engine number below the passenger side head on the stamp pad, matches the engine number on the body tag, and Car number on that tag matches the Vin Tag as well. It is a AC (air conditioning) car as well, it has the AC switch under the dash, and the AC unit and ducting under the passenger side. This car was painted in the early 90's, and it is showing its age, but actually is pretty shiny, it has a few smaller scratches, and chips, but over all a very sound body on this car. It was not a high dollar paint job, it has some orange peel to it, and looks like a single stage type of paint. The black accent stripes are painted on, I really like the one on the hood, it is very fitting for the cars look. I restored the rear tail light panel, and the front grill, the tail light panel is done in Ebony Metallic, and the grill in Argent Silver. Overall the paint is decent, it is not show, but looks great for driving around and enjoying. You may want to paint it again down the road. All the wheel lips look great, rockers, etc look great no rust bubbles. I love cars like this, because what you see is what you get. I am usually afraid of new paint on cars, because you never know what you have until later down the road. One thing that needs to be done, is have all the jams painted. Or if you want to repaint the car, it would be great to leave the original paint on all the jams, so in some ways this car will be easy to repaint the original color. Look at the pictures, you can see bumpers need work, etc. As I mentioned this car has not been on the road at least in the last 10 years, it was parked in a garage up on stands. I drained the gas tank, changed some fuel lines, I put some correct dual Carburetors on it, since the other ones needed to be rebuilt, they still need to be tuned, I am not to good with that. Put oil in the cylinders and let it sit, for a day, the engine was already free, since the gentleman I got it from would turn it over every 6 months, but just wanted to make sure everything was lubed up, changed the oil, drained the water etc. It does start right up, have to pull on the choke hard, and pump it a bit, but it will start every time, with no issues, and will sit and idle for ever. I have only put 4 miles on it since I have got it running, and it does actually pretty good, and has great acceleration. It does not over heat, I have let it sit many times in the driveway, idling for 45 minutes just breaking it back in. You can see the tachometer and speedometer works, took my eyes off the road for a few split seconds to snap a shot. It does need new front shocks it is a little bouncy when it hits bumps in the road. The engine runs good and seems like in good repair, but it is smoking bluish gray smoke when it is idling, and maybe a little when you first take off. When you are driving it it seems fine, but when you are sitting at a stop light it starts to smoke a bit. It could be a number of things, perhaps the valve stem seals in the head, or maybe rings, not sure. Many times when a car has been sitting this can happen, and they just need to be driven and sometimes the rings will set in after driving it often, and this maybe the case with this car, but I have not given it enough road time to really give it a chance, since I have only put a few miles on it. I personally would not hesitate driving it around town the way it is, and see how it goes, no guarantee though that it will ever leave. The brakes seem to work good, and does not pull, they seem to be in good shape. The transmission shifts nicely no weird noises, clutch feels good. Overall I think the car is in good mechanical shape, but I would not take it on a long trip until it has a proper tuneup, lube, and have everything looked at in general, since it has not been on the road for all those years. There is a smog pump upfront and there is not a belt on it. The Oil pressure reads excellent. Interior is actually in pretty nice shape. If you look at the pictures it pretty much tells you want it looks like. It does have a dash cap on the top though. The center console has 2 big cracks in it see pictures. The gas gauge, temp gauge, and clock are not working. The Amp Gauge works. AC blower works, The heater blower works, the AC blower works but does not blow cold, everything looks complete, besides it not having the AC compressor under the hood, windshield wipers work, Odometer - Speedometer and Tach work good. The dash lights work. The radio also works as well, there is a little static, it also has a power antenna. All the glass looks to be in very good shape. The wheels are in excellent shape, they are Enkei Aluminum wheels, with very good tires on the, around 98% tread. These wheels and tires have only been on the car for the last year or so, they are not cracked or weather checked, they look new. This car is not a show car, it is a very good project car that someone can work on and enjoy at the same time. The Yellow Oregon Plates do not go with the car, I like to put Correct Vintage Plates on my car when I photo them, just think it looks nice and more period. Everything you see in the pictures is what the car comes with, there are no other parts, no other items etc, what you see is what you get. I have sold many cars to folks overseas, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Mexico, Japan, Korea etc, and many new people on ebay with 0 feedback, everyone has to start somewhere.
