The car has 130,0xx miles. This early build e39 540i has a 6 speed manual transmission and the sport package, which includes alloy 17 inch staggered wheels with 235ZR45 tires up front and 255ZR40 tires in the rear (the car also has a full size spare!). The engine is a 4.4L all aluminum dual overhead cam engine. This early build 1998 does not have the VANOS engine (i.e., no variable valve timing and no throttle by wire). Later in that model year (beginning in November 1998), BMW started equipping the M62 engine with VANOS (variable valve timing). This change had NO horsepower advantage over the early build engines. The engine has a new water pump (a known weakness on these cars), valley pan, thermostat, high-performance ignition coils, spark plugs, power steering reservoir, and supply and return hoses. I have also installed a cold air intake by aFe. The car also has new slotted and drilled brake rotors, brake pads, braided stainless steel brake lines, short shift kit, and polyurethane thrust link bushings (these bushings are on the front suspension and are one of the causes for the typical "e39 shimmy" that my car DOES NOT HAVE). I have also added an auxiliary input for the stereo as this car only has a tape player. This car is seriously potent, BMW claimed the engine made 280 HP, but people have dyno'ed it closer to 315 HP. Again this is a great car, literally ten years ahead of anything else manufactured at the time. It also has all the other luxury features like sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 8 speaker stereo, leather, etc., etc. I love this car and really hate to see it go, but with other projects on the horizon it is time to move on.
