Vehicle Detail
1973 Datsun 240z, s30 Series NO RESERVE!!! This is a 2 owner 1973 Datsun 240 Z, it was bought new right here in Salem, Oregon, Jack's Datsun Sales Inc., 1st owner had it up until 2008. This cars build date is 12/72. I know that some folks are looking for Z cars that have a 1972 build date or earlier, so they can compete in various Rally, Track days and SCCA events. This is not a race car by any means, but I feel these cars are true sports cars, just like a Porsche, these cars were built for the track with a little tweaking. The original owner claimed 52K miles on it, but I do not have any documentation on that, it has been 37 years since it has rolled off the show room floor, so assume the mileage has rolled over. It was sold to a good friend of his in 2008, were many upgrades were made to it to make it more enjoyable and dependable. I won't mention every little detail, but here is a small list of what has been done. It has a new Magna Flow Exhaust System, New brakes all the way around, including rotors, Calipers, rear brake cylinders, new brake hoses, Clutch Slave cylinder, New Oil Pump, Master Brake Cylinder, Carburetors Completely rebuilt and upgraded by Z Therapy ($800), Linkage all cleaned, Intake manifold cleanes and polished, Valve Cover Gasket and Cover highly polished, new battery, tuneup, new plug wires, new Altenator, New Konig 17X7 Wheels ($750), and Goodyear Eagle F1 Tires ($750) all this work has been done in the last year. This car runs like a top, and sounds great, it is not a trailer queen, this car needs some cosmetics, and a new paint down the road, but it is a very sold car, and a very good car, and looks good. I have the original owners manaul, jacket, bunch of reciepts, original Oregon small title was given back when my friend bought it, for souvenir purposes. It has been repainted once, the original color during the mid 80's. It has aged obviously, it does hold a shine, but there is some fading on the hood, and there are various chips, and scratches on the car that have been touched up. Overall, it is something you can drive and feel good taking it to local shows and meets. The only rust issue on the outside of the body, is a spot on the rear trunk lid, on the drivers side corner. There are a few small dings on the car as well, you can catch some in the pictures. This car when painted was in good shape, I have pictures of it before it was painted back in the early 80's. It just needed a freshin up like it does now. I don't see any signs of any abuse of bondo, no cracks, I put a small magnet all over it and the body is sound. Rockers look good as well. I restored the rear tailight panel, and the front grill. Over all the trim is in good shape, looks to be all original, I took it to a car car last weekend, and was running a different bumper with no gaurds on it, to see what it looked like with out the gaurds. I like it better with the gaurds, I think it makes it more classic in my opinion. The floors are really nice, and in good shape. The only rust underneath, is the battery box, which is very easy to fix. All the inner aprons look good, shock towers look great, frame rails etc. Overall this car is a great start for someone. Interior is original, and except for the front seats in very good shape. The interior is called Butterscotch, which is a nice contrast, and has a very rich look to it. The front seat covers are available, so that is something you can get done in the future, they cost around $240 new, and they you have to put them on. The dash has one crack in it down the center on top, otherwise it is in great shape. Carpet is in good shape, the rear carpet looks nice, there is one area were it got snagged and unraved a bit. All the butterscotch diamond vinyl looks great, in the rear, and down the trans tunnel. The door panels are original and in very good shape. Headliner is also in great shape. Rear taillight inner panel looks excellant and rear inner panels as well. All the gauges work, choke works, lights all work, windows roll up and down nicely, seat works function, and the emergency brake works. Heater and fan work as well. This is a car that you can get in and drive across country, mechanically it is in great shape. As far as I can tell the original engine and trans have never been out of the car. This is a numbers matching car, engine number matches the tag under the hood. All vin numbers as well are intact as well. As I mentioned before, it has had a lot of mechanical work done. It runs very good, you can reach in the window, with the pull the choke, and start the key on and it will start right up. The carbs are all dialed in and in sync. It does have a few oil seeps up front, not sure were were they are coming from. It does not leave puddles on the ground, just a few little drops. This has been going on for about a couple years. It might need some stuff just tightened up, like the fuel pump, oil pan etc. It is not causing any issues, so this is something you can do in your spare time down the road. It does not blow and smoke, and does not burn oil. It idles very good, and has great acceleration. The Clutch slave cylinder is new, and the clutch feels good as well. All the gears feel tight as well. The brakes are competely gone through, and it stops on a dime. It has brand new Magna flow exhaust on it, and it sound really good, at idle, and even better when you are flying down the back roads, not to mention how good it handles around the old back road turns. I have sold many cars to folks overseas, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Mexico, Japan, Korea etc, and many new people on ebay with 0 feedback, everyone has to start somewhere. Here it is a couple weeks ago, at a early morning Cars and Coffee event that a friend of mine and I put on, it fits right in with the caliber of cars. These plates do not come with the car, just put these on while at car shows, for a period look, these are vintage yellow Oregon Plates, it comes with current Oregon tree plates. Carburators were restored by Z Therapy here in Salem, and the original Aluminum Valve Cover has been highly polished. The engine is original to the car, numbers matching, see engine number on the inner shock tower. This is a 2 owner car, the small title, is the original from 1973 it is for souvenir purposes, the blue title is the current title, 2nd owner. Just a few of the receipts that I picked out, lots of mechanical work done, to make this a daily driver, I just put a new Altenator on it as well. Underneath is in really nice shape, and clean for an original car. The only rust underneath, under the battery box, you can see it on the passenger side inner fender well, pretty easy fix.
