Vehicle Detail
Selling a 1966 Impala Convertible for a friend. It is NOT an ss, but it is a nice, solid, mostly complete convertible. Here is the story. The car was bought as a solid running/driving car with some rust in the quarters, but otherwise a nice, complete car. The current owner took it to a body man to have him replace the rusty panels & make it like new. The body guy tore the car apart & then started jacking the owner around. The trunk, floors, & front firewall were stripped & now have light surface rust all over them. All these areas will clean up easily enough & seem very solid. Meanwhile, someone broke into the body shop & stole the intake, carb, headers, fuel pump, valve covers, & a few other under hood pieces. The engine has been covered up since then, & these parts have not been replaced The original 327 engine & original 2 speed trans have both been rebuilt & are in the car, as is the rest of the original drive train. The engine has double hump 2.02 heads on it, a gear drive, & a edelbrock cam of unknown size. Not sure if the engine was over bored, but I can find out. The transmission was rebuilt to stock specs. The top is new with a glass rear window & has Impala stiched into the rear sides. The front bench & rear seats have both been recovered with a custom cloth design & look nice. The front & rear door panels have been recovered with a matching theme as the seats & are nice also. There are repro. quarters that have been screwed onto the back of the car, but they are by no means finished. They are just screwed on with two screws to hold them in place. The old quarters have already been removed. The portion of the frame I inspected looks very solid with just light surface rust. From the condition of the rest of the car, I have no reason to believe the frame would be severely rusty anywhere else, but I have not checked it all. The windshield area seems to be nice & solid, with just a bit of heavy surface rust here & there. The windshield is not cracked, but does have some light wear scratches. A new windshield comes with the car. The floors are really pretty solid, with just a few small holes. From what I can see of the trunk floor, it also looks to be very solid. I did not see any holes in the trunk, but again, I did not see all of it. The curent owner has bought complete floor pans because he didn't want any chance of the rust coming back. They come with the car also. They now have some surface rust on them from sitting around, but would clean up easily enough. The convertible top farme looks very nice & the hydraulic pump has been rebuilt & works like it should. The car comes with nice, rust free doors from California as well as a hood, & decklid, also from California. The decklid is actually from a Caprice, but will fit the Impala. There are no fenders with the car. Also included are the core support, grill, front & rear bumper cores, all the exterior trim, along with a lot of extra exterior trim. Also included are some nice 100 spoke Dayton rims with new tires on them. The car was hastily removed from the body shop & may be missing some fasteners, nuts, bolts, small items, etc.. But the vast majority of the parts are included with the car. The car DOES have a clean title. The car is located on the south east side of Indianapolis, Indiana, & will need to be towed/trailered away, along with all the parts. It will be on generic tires & rims & will be ready to be loaded with easy access for loading. Inspections are welcome, email me to set up a time. I'm selling this for a friend & will get any questions answered as soon as I can. Please remember this is a 44 year old car & there may be issues with it I don't know about but I've told everything I know about it. It is for sale locally & I reserve the right to end the auction early. I think the reserve is very reasonable & it is below $2000.00. I will accept a cashier's check, or money order for payment, but they will have to clear the bank before the car is picked up.On Jun-01-10 at 11:08:03 PDT, seller added the following information: In the description, it shows it is a 6 cylinder model. I must have clicked on the wrong button there. It is an original 327 car, which I'm sure everyone knows is an 8 cylinder. Sorry for any confusion. On Jun-04-10 at 15:33:06 PDT, seller added the following information: I checked the frame of the car & it is VERY solid, both at the front & rear where it goes over the rear end. There is no scaly rust or crusty rust anywhere that I could find. I'm adding a few pictures also. The engine & trans were rebuilt in '97 & the owner drove the car for 1 year, about 7,000 miles. Then he started the restoration & it has sat in a body shop or in his garage since then. Also, the new top has all new weather stripping on it. The owner has reciepts for most/all of the work done to the car. He put a ton of money in it & his loss is your gain.
