Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on one 1974 Porsche 914 1.8 liter. 5 Speed, A/C. Engine number EC005412. Door tag reads NR 471 963 on top and L 96 B on bottom. Resprayed black. Originally blue. Runs/drives well but not roadworthy because of sticky throttle cable and gas tank. Please feel free to ask questions as I am not a Porsche expert. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you have. I have 100% positive feedback and plan on keeping it that way. NEW PHOTOS OF BATTERY TRAY AREA POSTED ON PHOTOBUCKET AS OF 6-1-10. Not too bad actually. Suspension contact is good. Engine rebuilt at 107,606 miles with all fuel injection removed and Holley R9877 progressive 2bbl carburetor installed. Clutch at 98K. All (5) 15" Fuchs in good condition just need polishing. Runs and drives but throttle cable is sticky, also gas tank is clogged, running on gas can, so NOT ROADWORTHY because of this. WILL NEED TO BE TRAILERED/DOLLIED. Here are the details: YOU CAN SEE TONS OF PICS HERE: http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa267/velocejoe/Porsche%20914/ Acquired from original owner. Garage kept. All records, manuals. Original jack, etc. I have the original center caps and rear backup light. Car was driven regularly until 1989 when it was only driven occasionally as owners health deteriorated. Probably sat outside for a couple of years recently. Engine runs great, carburetor rebuilt. Transmission shifts good, no major problems known. I have not extensively road tested this due to throttle cable, too dangerous. Around the neighborhood it drives, stops, shifts as it should. Tires are old, dry rotted but hold air and have decent tread. ENGINE: No major leaks. Runs quite well. A little smoke at startup and if you really wind it up, but only when not fully warm. Carburetor just rebuilt. Points adjusted. Engine runs on plastic gas tank in front boot via electric fuel pump. Gas tank I assume is clogged up as I could get no gas to come through. TRANNY: Shifts fine. Works in all gears. CHASSIS: Brakes work good. Some corrosion at gas pedal where it is screwed into the floor. Floors actually in good shape except for behind/underneath passenger seat. Outside seat rail attachment is rusted off. Hole in passenger floor behind seat where battery corrosion worked it's way down from engine compartment. Jack point on passenger side holds up, seems solid but does not look that good.(See photos). Suspension connection at passenger rear is good as well. All other chassis points look good with only surface rust. Rear boot has some corrosion of the pan on passenger side. (See photo). Fuchs are in great shape, no road rash, just oxidized. Would polish up nice. BODY: Respayed black. Originally blue. Looks like it was a pretty decent job at one point but has deteriorated over the years. Body is actually in good condition. No major dents, rust, etc. There is some minor rust on the driver rocker and some rust through on the passenger rocker. Targa top works great. Rear window weatherstripping is dried out as well as windshield weatherstripping. Passenger door works from inside only. Windows work fine. There is a small dent in the driver side front bumper between guard and side but it would not show up well. Easy fix, dent wizard could pull it out no problem. Rear bumper guard on passenger side is missing some rubber. Rubber missing above license plate as well. Rubber on front bumper is there but has some minor depressions here and there. Windshield is cracked on drivers side but not severely. ELECTRICAL: All exterior lights work except for one fog light. Passenger headlight quit going up and down for some reason, but you can raise and lower it manually. It was working electrically but stopped. No gauges are working on the inside except for oil light, alt. light, speedometer. Have not tried to diagnose any interior electrical issues. Key is stuck in switch in the run position. It will not turn back for some reason. Have a kill wire installed at the coil. Mitsubishi radio, may work. INTERIOR: Tear in driver seat, passenger good condition. Both seats work well. Carpet old and tired but somewhat presentable, could be cleaned up better. Dash is cracked on top. Dash face is great. Console good. I have the rear view mirror. Side view mirrors in good working order. RECORDS: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25K dealer maintenance performed by Porsche up to 4-24-76. Owner kept a log of fill ups from 82,685 miles 3-1981 to 124,609 miles 3-1986. 84,237/4-3-81: Full maintenance, replace air box and boot, replace A/C hoses and front pads. 5-20-81: Replace right inner CV joint, adjust clutch, free up pedal assy. 6-9-81: Remove and replace pedal assy. Charge A/C, replace A/C hose. 89,750/7-13-81: Replace belts. 97,698/4-5-82: Replace clutch assy. and resurface flywheel. 10-6-82: Replace air flow meter. 7-19-83: Replace heater control valve. 107,606/8-22-83: Replace all fuel hoses, fuel filter, fuel pump, charge A/C, new carb, remove all fuel injection components and rebuild engine. 108,743/12-13-83 Adjust valves, replace valve cover gaskets. WHAT WOULD I DO: Well, you could drive it if you fix the throttle cable. It was totally stuck but I managed to get it lubed and working great until you put the throttle return spring on it and it seems to want to not return so great. Remove and clean out gas tank. Therefore it is not a driver, but could be once these two items are fixed. This thing runs and drives way too good to just give up on it. Less than 30K on a rebuilt engine! The normal battery area corrosion has not reached the critical stage as a lot of these have. Luckily it was garaged. There is corrosion down the suspension member but the contact point at the chassis is solid. This thing drives nice, but I guess you could use it for parts if you wanted to. It's ALL THERE. A very solid car other than the battery area and rear boot pan, which is not structural. IF YOU HAVE ZERO OR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, YOU MUST CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING, IF NOT, YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELED, NO EXCEPTIONS. Thanks and good luck. I can deliver within a couple hundred, NOT THOUSANDS, of miles for $1.00 per mile.
