Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 0 1 710 4052 33 8 4976 11.1282 0 0 0 This is an auction for a restoration candidate, non-running 1967 Short Wheel Base 4-cylinder Porsche 912 (912s were the 4-cylinder versions of the early 911s); white is the original color, with black interior, the car has a 5 gauge dash, and a 4-speed manual gearbox. I purchased this car on ebay three months ago, from a Los Angeles seller. The car arrived with a CA black plate (which I assumed to be correct), showing last registration 1998. I know very little about this car; nothing of the history, only what I see. I bought this 912 to restore, but my circumstances are such that it is just too impractical to start a project any time soon (the usual culprits, time, budget, storage, etc), and since I'm paying for storage, I must sell. My loss will be someone's gain. Please keep in mind my description of the car is that of an amateur, and is by no means exhaustive. The basic points of the car are these: the car is not running, probably hasn’t been started in a decade. The engine turns by hand. (I offer anecdotally the previous owner's statement that the engine fired over with starter fluid; I never tried so cannot confirm.) The outside body shell is actually in decent condition considering the price range, not great, but decent. The paint is old, faded, cracked, with some filler showing, but the only rust I see on the outside body is surface where paint has flaked and chipped, etc. The key thing about this car is the floors, ironic for a California car. There's no way to finesse this, the simplest way to put it is that the floors need total replacement, including a front suspension area. They’re basically rusted through, see pictures. My guess is the car sat for years with windows at least partially open, and wherever water and dirt settled, the metal rusted out. The rear suspension points seem OK to me (I’m not an expert) but the front of the trunk area, affecting the front suspension points below, as well as the tow hook area (tow hook has yanked out with rot), portions of which have been eaten through and show rust, will need repair. The engine is probably original, at any rate the serial number (752335) shows it is period correct. Has some ancient oil in it, and turns by hand. The 4-speed gearbox, for what it’s worth, has a nice smooth shift to it. The interior is rough. The seats are good, recovered, but most of the carpet is missing, the door panels are old (the driver's is in tatters), no rear seat bottoms, etc. All the green-face gauges are present, the dash pad is missing however. Some random points: All the glass is good…brakes do not, but handbrake does, work…car steers fine…mechanically it seems all intact, however cosmetically missing some items: e.g. dash pad, horn button, ash tray, rear seat bottoms, drivers side interior door handle, possibly other minor things…the front seats are sitting loose, don’t have tracks…tires are bald, but do hold air…has cool covered headlamps…early ‘button’ style outside door handles…early style chrome rear-view mirror, etc, etc. 912s are going up in price and should remain so, this car will be an excellent value for someone.... Terms. I’ve set a modest reserve price on the car, less than what I paid for it. I’ll expect a $500 deposit within 48 hours of sale via Paypal, and the balance due by cash or cashiers check within 7 days of close of auction, whether car has been picked up or not. Shipping is buyer’s responsibility, but obviously I’ll do whatever I can to help. The car is currently in storage in Salt Lake City, rent paid to the end of this month; if the winning bidder wants to keep the car there for a while they’re welcome to take over the rent (approx. $110/month). I have clear (i.e. not salvage or anything similar) Utah title in hand, in my name. Please ask questions, no matter how simple they seem. I’ve tried to describe a vintage car, which I don’t know well and is not running, as best I can, not an exact science. Keep in mind this car is forty-three years old, not running, for restoration, i.e. it is not some “just needs a tune-up” machine. I want this transaction to be excellent for both buyer and seller, so again, if you’re unsure about anything, please ask. Anybody local is welcome to come see the car. If any bidder has low or no or negative feedback, I reserve the right to cancel the bid. Please contact me if you feel this is an issue. Also, please bear in mind the winner enters into a binding contract for sale, not an invitation to come and ‘tire-kick’. If for any reason a bidder has difficulty with any terms of the auction, I kindly ask they refrain from bidding. I’ve posted as many pictures as I could; the sun was very bright that day and tended to obliterate detail, esp. the paintwork. (Remember, cars always look better in pictures). See close-ups for better detail. Good luck, and happy bidding. I should have mentioned before, I'm just not very good with a camera. I've uploaded the same shots in this listing, as well as a few more, onto photobucket, where they'll enlarge a lot bigger than can be seen on this page. Cut and paste the link below in a new tab to view. The auction's going well, so I decided to go ahead and lower the reserve and get that out of the way. As of Friday morning (US time) the bidding is quite close the reserve price...
