This is a great car. We bought it in 1996 from the woman who bought it new in 1964 in San Diego from University Ford. She had moved up to the San Francisco area by then, where we've kept it since, at our home in the wine country. We've taken good care of her. In 1997 we rebuilt the engine and transmission, did a quality repaint (but not body-off) in the original red, put on a new top with a glass rear window, and new upholstery and carpets. We bought the car with 134K miles, so we've only driven about 1,000 miles per year since. Since it was manufactured in Los Angeles and has lived in coastal California its whole life, it's never been in salt. So the body and frame are in excellent condition. We've kept it _very_ original. In fact, not only does it have the original black license plates and a University Ford license plate frame, but the front bumper has the original parking sticker from the US Navy's Fleet Anti-submarine Warfare School in San Diego. We believe that all of the glass and trim are original, with the exception of some side-trim that we replaced when we got sideswiped in a parking lot. We think all the emblems are original as well. The motor is strong and the transmission is smooth. The paint is very good (normal wear and tear). The carpet probably wants to be replaced -- it's fine, but faded - as do the interior door panels (good ones are now available thru Dearborn Auto Parts). The upholstery is in fine shape with the exception of two small holes in the back seat. The original boot cover is there, but badly faded and starting to deteriorate. The car has power brakes and steering, bucket seats, power top, and an AM radio that we've never tried to get working (ditto for the clock). We did install a more modern radio under the dash - see the photos. This can easily be a daily driver for bopping around town (something about hearing the Beach Boys in this car with the top down is just too good). But with a bit of effort you could turn this into a great show car as well. Why are we selling? We just don't drive it enough, and it deserves to be driven. Want to know more?
